On December 7, Minnesota’s Federal Stimulus Funding will be available for homeowners across the state.

The stimulus funding will be in the form of an “Energy Saver Rebate” and offered through participating Minnesota Housing lenders, such as the Center for Energy and Environment, CEE. Only borrowers who access Minnesota Housing’s Fix-Up Fund loan will be eligible to apply for the rebate.

The “Energy Saver Rebate” offers a 35% rebate for all qualifying energy improvements, with a maximum rebate of $10,000. These qualifying improvements include windows, doors, insulation, water heater, heating and cooling. Improvements must meet certain energy efficiency criteria to be eligible for the rebate. The Fix-Up Fund has a maximum loan amount of $35,000 and a maximum term of 20 years with an interest rate of 5.99%* as of Nov. 22, 2009.

More information on the “Energy Saver Rebate”, the fix-up fund loan and other home improvement loans can be found at

The Fix-Up Fund loan is one of the many loans and financing options CEE offers to Minnesota residents. As the largest non-profit home improvement lender for Minnesota Housing, they can help match Minnesotans with the best available financing options for their home improvement needs. The Center for Energy and Environment is a nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis. CEE was established in 1979 and is the leading energy-saver-rebate-specifics-09-12nonprofit resource on energy efficiency in the state.

Are you interested in sustainability, gardening, architectural design or permaculture? How would you design a vertical growing system for melons & other vines that is low cost, durable & produces high quality fruit? Got an idea? Enter our juried design competition & help urban gardeners increase food production.

“This year’s competition challenges our contestants to build a low-cost, durable trellis system for growing melons & other vine crops in tight urban spaces,” says Paula Westmoreland, Executive Director of PRI Cold Climate.

Why melons? Lindsay Rebhan, who is helping organize the competition, explains, “They present a challenge not only because of their weight & the need to support each fruit, but also because their long growing seasons make them a gamble in cold climates.”

Designs will be judged on their ability to not only support 50 pounds of melons & other vines, but also to create healthy microclimates for them by moderating rapid weather changes & incorporating companion plants. Contestants are encouraged to use recycled materials in their construction.

The top designs will be displayed at public exhibition on March 12. The winning design team will be awarded $500 toward implementation in the Science Museum of Minnesota’s Big Back Yard.

The application fee is $10 per team. Applications must be received by December 31, 2009. Completed designs are due February 26, 2010. For more information, visit Contact Karen Graham at or 763-551-9572 with questions.

dsc02850I found a little yorkie mix running down 43rd and Nicollet around 1pm today, Friday December 4.
No tags, little choke chain collar.  Very friendly. I have taken him home with me for now, to keep him out of the traffic.
You can contact Bridget at 612-709-6593. Thanks!
