Domes over the Reed Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Kingfield were both damaged over the weekend.
Kingfield’s Reed Sweatt Family Tennis Center is closed as administrators assess the damage.
One of the center’s domes collapsed because too much snow weighted it down, while the other took some damage, according to a report from KFAI’s Ahndi Fridell.
Volunteers and customer worked over the weekend to clear snow from the domes in attempts to save them.
The tennis center is closed until the center’s administrators can assess the damage, according to a message on the center’s phone line and website.

Opposition to MLK Dog Park Has Deep Roots in Once-Divided City
Filed Under dog park, mlk park | Leave a Comment
The proposed dog park has led to some contentious Minneapolis park board meetings. Supporters and opponents of the dog park have been depicted simply as pro-dog or anti-dog. But it all started when Mays and other members of the Sabathani chapter of AARP planned to host a picnic at the park last summer.
While planning the picnic, the group heard about the possible dog park, for which some Kingfield residents have been advocating. The group was angry, and they were concerned about children’s safety and disposal of dog waste. But their opposition to a dog park at Martin Luther King Park goes even deeper.

Saturday, January 15 is the deadline for nominating homes to the 2011 Minneapolis & Saint Paul Home Tour. The tour, in its 24th year, will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1.
“People who attend the tour are looking for ideas on how to remodel or expand their homes,” said Tour coordinator Margo Ashmore. “Homeowners on the tour enjoy fabulous feedback on their projects and find it’s also a great promotion for their neighborhoods.”
Contractors often help staff the homes, and homeowners ask family and friends to contribute a few hours hosting. “A good support network makes it fun. It’s also a great incentive to finish up the last few little projects,” Ashmore said.
Who should nominate a home? The homeowners usually offer their homes themselves. Also, contractors and other vendors may nominate homes they have worked on, and are encouraged to call for more information about sponsorship. Green, energy efficient, and historically-sensitive remodels and expansions get special notice among the 50 homes. It is not necessary to have remodeled the whole house.
Minneapolis Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) manages the tour as a celebration of city living that encourages homeowners to improve existing homes. For more information, call Tour Coordinator Margo Ashmore at 612-867-4874 or email link@nrp.org. The application can be downloaded from www.MSPHomeTour.com, click on “nominate” and there is a link in the text.

Minneapolis passes tax hike
Filed Under City Council, nrp | Leave a Comment
The City Council approved the budget on a 10-3 vote to end a marathon session after midnight Tuesday. It boosts the city’s property tax collection by 4.7 percent but wallops many taxpayers by greater amounts.
By STEVE BRANDT, Star Tribune
They admonished, they pleaded, they chided for four hours, but dozens of property taxpayers who testified at Minneapolis City Hall Monday night still got a 2011 city budget that imposes much higher property taxes and trims services.
The budget also means 32 fewer firefighters, 24 fewer cops, less money for affordable housing, and restricts the budgets of city neighborhoods.
