Kingfield’s 2011 Community Art Show

On March 10th, MPS will host an evening called “Soup with the Supe”.  Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson is inviting the community to have dinner with her and her leadership team to share her vision for MPS and answer questions from guests.

Join us Saturday February 26 for our grand opening celebration! Lift kettlebells, practice yoga and partake in a ceremony to bless our studio with light.

12pm and 2pm: Intro to cosmic kettlebells classes.
                                Each class is 60 min long and open to all levels of fitness.
                                Bring flat soled sneakers.

4pm :                     Open level yoga
                                60 minute class
                                All levels welcome– make it your first yoga class if you’ve never tried it!

6pm :                     Four directions ceremony, toast and snacks, games and dancing

Classes are free- bring your friends!  Arrive at least 10 minutes early for the classes. Please bring your kids to the party.

We offer classes in kettlebell training, yoga (also prenatal and parent-baby) and qi gong meditation, and we also practice acupuncture and create personal programs. Please join City of Minneapolis Public Works staff and Councilmember Elizabeth Glidden to discuss options for improving pedestrian/bicyclist safety and traffic calming at 2nd Avenue and 40th Street (the entrance to the pedestrian bridge across I-35W).  Read more about the project here.

Public Works Engineer Jack Yuzna will present options for improving the physical infrastructure near the entrance to the pedestrian bridge across I-35W.  Options include a raised crosswalk (like a speed bump) or versions of a bumpout that extends the sidewalk on the west side of 2nd Avenue.

Please note that 2nd Avenue will be resurfaced during the 2011 construction season, from just north of 32nd Street to 34th Street and 37th Street to 42nd Street.  Residents will receive separate notice of a community meeting in May regarding the resurfacing project and public hearing for assessments.   More information on resurfacing of 2nd Avenue is available at

Patisserie 46 is turning to chocolate in honor of St. Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.  Chef John Kraus, celebrated for his breads, pastries and other delicacies, is also a past winner of the Food Network’s Chocolate Challenge, and he and his wife Dawn are pulling out all the stops for the holiday, showcasing — chocolate. 

P46 will be open especially for the occasion, throughout the weekend for shopping for gifts and other treats. And for a special celebration, from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 14, the whole place will be devoted to all things chocolate.

Come in and see the dramatic chocolate sculpting that helped win the Chocolate Challenge. Stop in any time during the day, or days before, to pick up gifts for teachers, friends, and of course, for special someones.

Patisserie 46 is located in the Minneapolis Kingfield neighborhood, near Lake Harriet, on the northwest corner of 46th and Grand, by Café Ena and King’s. Pastry Chef John Kraus, an American pastry chef trained in the European artisan model, left Chicago’s French Pastry School (the nation’s top pastry program) to create the neighborhood bakery, which opened in July 2010. He has twice been named one of Pastry Art and Design Magazine’s “Top Ten Pastry Chefs in America” (2005 and 2006), and was the winner of the 2004 Food Network Chocolate Challenge.
