MSP FairSkies is beginning to formulate what is acceptable noise and jet traffic overhead, and we want you to be a part of the response to the airport. Other cities around the country have set limits and noise quotas with their jet traffic. We need to do the same. We plan a 60-minute presentation, with plenty of time for discussion. We will show the inconsistencies in the airport plans, and mostly the inadequate sharing of information with us, the neighborhoods imposed upon. Traffic and Parking Services is shutting down the traffic signal at W. 38th St. and Grand Ave. S. to upgrade the signal.  Our records indicate that this signal was installed in 1960.  So, this is an intersection that is due for an upgrade. The upgrade will include pedestrian countdown Timers and overhead signal indications.  The intersection will operate as a 4-way stop for 4-8weeks until we get the upgraded signal operational.  The project started Monday the April 23rd.

We chose to rush the upgrade of this signal now, to coincide with the mill and overlay project on 38th St. and minimize disruption.  Also, this will allow some cost savings as some of the work will include the need to do some small patch digging in the road, and the restoration of the road can be completed through the Mill and Overlay Project.

A common tool used to calm roadway traffic is a striped edge line to indicate where the driving and parking lanes are located.  The intent of the edge line is to narrow the driving lane which impacts driving behavior by reducing the comfort level for driving at high speeds.  Essentially, it gives the impression that the roadway has narrowed.

There is an opportunity on Nicollet, due to the recent construction project, to install an edge line with durable roadway markings.  This type of marking cost more than typical painted markings, but is more visible and doesn’t require Public Works to restripe it every year as painted markings wear off.   The Nicollet Project budget has been evaluated by Public Works, and it has been determined that edge lines can be installed on Nicollet using durable markings, which after installed does not present a burden on maintenance budgets.  Thanks to Kingfield and Lyndale neighbors for the request.
