1) RFP Update: Motzenbecker needs Bryant Neighborhood information from Steve Brandt to include in the RFP. Brandt will get it to Motzenbecker by March 2nd.
Any RFP comments need to be in to Motzenbecker by Monday night (March 6th).
Hinds is on the Bryant and Bancroft’s neighborhood’s March board meeting agenda. Hinds will update/inform each neighborhood about the King Bridge Project and request volunteer participation and funding.
2) Draw Bridge Coloring Contest Update: The committee did not approve of Ken Avidor’s template for the coloring contest and Avidor was unwilling to make adjustment to his work. Jevning has approached another artist and has clearly explained KBP’s goals for DrawBridge contest. . The new artist will have a sample to Jevning this week for the committee to review and it will be ready for the SWJ’s submission deadline.
A Draw Bridge informational letter was mailed to art teachers at schools along the 40th Street RiverLake Greenway a few weeks ago and another mailing will go out to them with a complete DrawBridge package including: template, rules, prizes, judging panel etc).
Sines will work on prize solicitation (including $250 cash for the grand prizewinner). Jevning offered to donate one class at Leonardo’s Basement for the kid’s category. J. Hallstrom has the business list along the RiverLake Greenway and will email it to Sines. J. Hallstrom will also check with Linnes-Robinson (KFNA executive director)to make sure KFNA isn’t already soliciting donations from any of the listed businesses.
Draw Bridge Judging Panel: It was decided that at least three people are needed for each entry category. KBP committee members will fill in as needed. Below is a list of possible judges.

3) Partner Recruitment: KBP needs to combine three lists of possible partners (business, churches, schools, organizations etc) and work together as a committee to make connections.
Guidelines: KFNA and BNO are leading the project and are “full partners.”
KBP would like to solicit other full partners to participate in meetings etc.
KBP would also like to identify “associates” of the project.
Discussion: The question was raised about what defines a “partner” verses a “supporter.” Hinds stated that KBP should have no more than 15 people actively participating on the committee – seated at the table. Questions were raised about the definition of a “partner.”. Partners are needed to build community support – these can be financial donors, committee participants, or backers of the project. Hinds stated that KBP will work with each partner to tailor their relationship with KBP. Jevning added that it would be good to identify representatives from the City and County to cement their partnership with KBP.
Hind will combine the partner lists: political, business list, Steve’s list:
Jevning agreed to maintain the list and Brandt will help fill in contact information.
Now that KFNA will have access to GIS map information, Hinds will request a residential mailing list of all residents near 40th Street. Brandt is still trying to track stories of people around the bridge and this list will be helpful in that effort.
Once all the lists are compiled and contacts are designated (gov/corp/big non-profit/small non-profit/churches/local businesses/individuals) committee members will each take a group of contacts and follow-up with them.
Gov/Corp/Big non-profit: Hinds
Churches: Brandt
Local businesses/small non-profits: Jevning and Sines
Procedure: An initial letter will be send out to contacts and then committee members will call their designated contacts and set up times to meet wit them. Hinds has KBP brochures that can be handed out. The goal is to get each contact to sign up as named supporter of the project. .
Timeline: Connecting with contacts will be an ongoing effort. The website and RFP will be the spring and summer focus. Once the web site and RFP are published there will be a big publicity push. The website will be set up to receive donations, which will be needed in order to build a base for individual fundraising. The “Capitol Campaign” /support raising will be on going.
Sines researched and brought some contacts of fundraisers and reviewed them with the committee. KBP may want to bring a consultant on to help raise money when the website is up and KBP actively recruiting partners.
Fundraising Contacts:
Hinds will follow- up with Senator, Scott Dibble
KBP will work to maintain a connection with Mary Altman (City Art ??? title? ) and keep her abreast of the project.
4) Updates:
Scope of Service:Â Hinds and Brandt met with Bob Miller, Director of NRP who noted that the street leading up to bridge is a state aide street and encouraged KBP to broaden the fundraising scope in this way and think outside the box for funding sources.
Grant Requests: Hinds will get Brandt comments on the Minnesota Common Grant Application. Varner has already submitted comments.
Bryant Neighborhood: Hinds has offered to help Bryant Neighborhood with organizing and has been following-up with KBP’s Bryant contacts. KBP would like to get a representative from Sabathani Community on the committee and will also try to recruit representatives from Bryant churches etc. Brandt will look at old co-op project list for other Bryant contacts.
Website: Hinds sent link to the initial flash page and asked the committee for feedback. Comments included the need for a better color scheme, a change in design theme to fit with the character of the KBP logo and project (the current design is too “home spun” looking). Committee members suggested a more art deco style with clean lines and balanced images. The committee would also like the inclusion of photos of kids, community etc. The committee also discussed the best ways to navigate the site and offered suggestions for Hinds to take back to the web designer.
Sines did some checking for historical photos of the park and neighborhood. She found a few that would be great on the website.
Other: Brandt will pursue a grant possibility from Linnes-Robinson with the DNR and will also check into a grant with Kodak.
Brandt and Jevning will go back through old Bryant lists they have from the RiverLake Greenway Project.
