1) Minneapolis National Night Out is approaching fast– Tuesday, August 4, 2009.
Free street closure if you apply by today! It will cost you $100 to apply to close your street if you miss this
…and remember, all registered Kingfield parties will get a visit from your neighborhood association representatives who will be scooping our very own 2009 Kingfield ice cream flavor (to be announced NEXT WEEK!), created and donated by Sebastian Joes, our local fabulous confectionary!
There is a single online process to register your NNO event and apply to close your street. If you want to close your street for your event, you will need permission of 75 percent of your neighbors to be approved for street closure. Please have their names and addresses with you when you apply. (You do not need their signatures.)
Get started at www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/nno. If you prefer to speak to someone, you can register your event and apply for street closure by calling 311 (or 612-673-3000).
2) Kingfield Crime Prevention and Safety Committee meets Tuesday night, 7-8:30 pm, MLK Park.
We haven’t met since summer began, so it will be good to re-connect and catch up. We will get updates from the police and city prosecutors on current crime trends and any Kingfield cases needing impact statements. We will also check in on Wednesday walkers, get an update on graffiti prevention work, celebrate completion of fundraising for the bike for cops, and discuss upcoming events including National Night Out and the September garage sale.
Hope to see you there!
Sarah Gleason, KFNA Project Organizer
office: 612-823-5980 ext. 3
3) Kingfield/ MLK Summer Festival
Come celebrate summer at MLK Park! Thursday July 23, 6:30-8 PM
Weenies, Water to Wade in, Wacky Inventions from Leonardo’s Basement, Wild Music, and more!
Questions or want to volunteer? Contact Brian Cornell at MLK at 370.4908 or bcornell@minneapolisparks.org
4) Kingfield’s 2009 Summer Public Art Project is a partnership with Leonardo’s Basement and focuses on youth portraiture, celebrating the diversity of culture, appearance, learning and ideas in our community. This art-filled afternoon will allow families to explore faces of our community, especially their own, and learn various methods of creating portraits including digital photography, Photoshop, free-hand self-portrait painting, and screen printing. This celebration of youth will result in an end-of-summer art show and auction to which all are invited to see the talent and diversity in our community!
At this time we are seeking 8-12 volunteers interested in the arts, in general, or as a community building and bonding tool to assist with projects on Sunday August 9 between 12:30 and 4:30 PM.
We are also reserving space for up to 12 families interested in participating in the photography or screen printing sessions at 1, 2, or 3 PM.
Please contact Sarah Linnes-Robinson, KFNA Executive Director at 612.823.5980 or sarah@kingfield.org if you have questions or want to participate.
