Yesterday the City Council’s Regulatory, Energy & Environment Committee approved the Climate Action Plan. The Plan will now be forwarded to the full City Council at their Committee of the Whole and regular meetings on June 27th and June 28th. While public testimony is generally not heard at these meetings, you can still contact your Council member with any comments regarding the plan. You can find your ward information byclicking here.
The Climate Action Plan is a road map to acheiving the City Council-adopted greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets: a 15 percent reduction by 2015 and a 30 percent reduction by 2025, both from 2006 levels. The plan contains aggressive goals and specific strategies to increase energy efficiency, provide more transportation options, reduce waste, and increase renewable energy. The plan is the product of over a year of public engagement, including a working group and steering committee structure, public open houses, and multiple surveys to collect feedback from Minneapolis residents and businesses.
