For Immediate Release Aug. 20, 2010
Public meeting to hear all views on the proposed dog park at M L King Jr. Park
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will hold a public meeting to seek comment on recommendations regarding a proposed off-leash dog area at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 2 at King Park, 4055 Nicollet Ave S.
In April 2010, the Kingfield Neighborhood Association Task Force presented a proposal to the Park Board for an off-leash dog area at the park. The Task Force was established in 2009 in response to strong neighborhood interest in developing a dog park in ML King Jr. Park. The MPRB is reviewing options and public input received to date regarding the possibility of adding an off-leash dog area at the park and will present recommendations for public review and comment on September 2.
The meeting will include a presentation of the Task Force’s proposal, summary of the public input gathered to date and the MPRB’s proposed recommendations. Participants will be invited to comment on the proposed recommendations verbally and/or in writing. Care will be taken to ensure all viewpoints can be shared. The meeting will conclude with information about next steps.
The MPRB currently has six dog off-leash recreation areas throughout the city, but none in the 6th Park District. (ML King Park lies in the 6th park district.)
