Those wishing to save a couple of bucks on Craigslist and other on-line exchange sites might also be risking their safety. According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, criminals can target unsuspecting buyers or sellers during face-to-face transactions.
Starting Wednesday, online buyers and sellers in Minneapolis and surrounding areas have a safe option – Swap Spots.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office created designated public places where people can meet to exchange items and cash.
The Swap Spots are open Monday through Friday, during regular business hours.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff”s Office, deputies will not monitor each exchange nor keep a log of the purchases.
If a person wants to request a deputy to be present for an exchange, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office will try to get one for you.
Swap Spots are located in the lobbies of three Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office facilities.
They include the:
- Sheriff’s Water Patrol in Spring Park
- Enforcement Services Division in Brooklyn Park
- Hennepin County Public Safety Facility in Minneapolis
