orange-logo-1Minneapolis, MN—July 8, 2009—HOURCAR, the Neighborhood Energy Connection’s car-sharing program, announces the launch of its twenty-first shared vehicle in the Twin Cities.  The car, a 2009 red Honda Fit, will be located in HOURCAR’s newest hub at the intersection of 38th Street and Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis.  This hub is sponsored by the Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA), through a Climate Change Innovation grant from the city of Minneapolis.

“KFNA is confident in the success of HOURCAR in our neighborhood.  Kingfield residents have demonstrated that they care about the environment and are willing to act to protect it,” says KFNA Executive Director Sarah Linnes-Robinson.  “HOURCAR is a great addition to the community fabric of Kingfield–having access to HOURCAR is like having a sister or brother live in your neighborhood who will let you bum their vehicle when you need one.”

“Kingfield is a great neighborhood for an HOURCAR hub,” according to HOURCAR Program Manager Christopher Bineham. “We know that Kingfield residents like to bike, walk, and use transit. Now that HOURCAR is in the neighborhood, they can even get rid of their cars, without losing convenience or mobility.”

As part of the Climate Change grant that KFNA received to sponsor this hub, the association is offering free HOURCAR memberships through July 31 to Kingfield residents who sign up for the Minnesota Energy Challenge.  To celebrate and publicize this new hub, the new HOURCAR will be at the Kingfield Farmer’s Market, 4310 Nicollet Avenue South, from 8:30 am to 1 pm on Sunday, July 12.  KFNA will also host a Hub Kick-off on Thursday, July 16 at the new hub location, 3800 Nicollet Avenue South from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.  All are encouraged to attend either event to learn more about HOURCAR, see the new car and sign up for the MN Energy Challenge.
