Thomas and Sons will be continuing with pavement removals between 34th St and 32nd S. They are scheduled to begin installation of new storm main tomorrow, starting at 35th St and working north. The intersections of 32nd, 33rd, and 34th will be closed. They will minimize the parking restrictions as much as possible outside of the construction zone. The restrictions are necessary to allow for equipment maneuvering and to maintain safety for the public as well as the construction workers. All businesses will be open.

Minneapolis Water is in the process of reconnecting customers to the water main and removing the temporary hoses and piping. Minneapolis Traffic is working on the signal foundations at 35th and Nicollet, and will be working on the permanent signal at 31st and Nicollet. Century Link is working on a manhole at 36th St. They are also working on repair work at 34th St and Nicollet.

A few questions in the Phase 1 area…

When will the last layer of asphalt be put down? The last lift/layer of asphalt will be done at the same time for all 3 of the 2012 phases. This will occur late in the 2012 construction season.

When will the trees get planted? Minneapolis Park Board intends to plant all the trees in the 2012 Phase 1 project area at the same time.   Tree planting is typically in the spring and fall and after the construction is completed, this means the trees in the Phase 1 area will likely be planted next spring.

When will the grass/sod boulevards get planted? These will also get planted in the fall. When will the street lights be done? Minneapolis Traffic has been installing the wiring, poles, and fixtures for the new street lighting system. Additional fixtures have been ordered, they will be installed when they are received.
