In February we celebrate Black History Month, which is also the last month of One Minneapolis, One Read of “The Grace of Silence.”  There are several great One Read events planned for this month, many sponsored by the Hennepin County Library with school partners.  Please check www.OneMinneapolisOneRead.com <http://www.oneminneapolisoneread.com/>  for events.

One Minneapolis One Read was a major initiative of Building Bridges in 2011, and I thank this group again for inspiring this wonderful community read for our city.  I am pleased to announce to you that the City, Schools, and Library have now agreed to continue with One Read into future years!  The City, MPS, and Hennepin County Library are now starting the book selection process, with the assistance of the Givens Foundation and an independent book seller.  In order to meet important deadlines for Minneapolis Public Schools to include the One Read selection in high school curriculum, a book must be selected by early April 2012.  If you have suggestion please forward to me by February 16th.
