Minneapolis City Council approves next One Minneapolis One Read book

On April 13, the City Council approved “Spirit Car: Journey to a Dakota Past,” as the next One Minneapolis One Read book. The community read will launch in Fall 2012.

An evening of organ, brass and piano with Jim ten Bensel and Bill Chouinard

Concert is Sunday, April 22, 7 pm at Judson Memorial Baptist Church, 4101 Harriet. Suggested donation is $15.
Judson Church presents an evening of organ, brass and piano with Jim ten Bensel and Bill Chouinard. Chouinard is longtime organist and music coordinator at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church and has appeared on national radio broadcasts at the Fitzgerald’s Wurlitzer theater organ, on “Pipedreams”, with the Minnesota Orchestra and touring as a guest organ soloist with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. ten Bensel is founder and director of the Minneapolis Trombone Choir and teaches at MacPhail. He has performed with numerous orchestras and toured with Henry Mancini and Stan Kenton. Music will feature a variety of styles on organ, brass and piano.

Thanks to a graffiti prevention grant from the City of Minneapolis Solid Waste and Recycling, the Kingfield Neighborhood will be seeing a new mural begin on the sound wall of 40th Street and Stevens Avenue. The mural will be painted and then installed on the section just north of the pedestrian bridge and will serve as a gateway into the neighborhood. Kingfield is excited to welcome lead artists Greta McLain and Silvia Ibáñz to our community!
A series of painting workshops will be held inside Dr. Martin Luther King Park Rec Center this spring, with some teen-focused dates and other dates open to the larger community. The first dates are: Teen painting workshops, April 27, 6-8 PM and Community painting workshops, April 28, 1-3 PM. You do not need to RSVP—just plan to attend!
Meet the artists and review the mural design at the Kingfield Annual Meeting on Monday April 16 at 6:30 PM, AND at the Earth Day Clean-up on Saturday April 21, 11-12 PM. Come get inspired to create art! An unveiling party will be scheduled for later in the summer—stay tuned to the Kingfield eNews for details! Looking for some fun, challenging, engaging summer activities for your school-age kids? Youth Performance Company, an award-winning Minneapolis theatre company, is holding Summer 2012 classes in South Minneapolis! We’ll be at Watershed High School, on the corner of East 46th Street and 4th Avenue South, just two blocks from the the 46th Street exit off 35W. We have full-day workshops and half-day classes in drama, musical theatre, dance, improv, and more for students grades K-12.
