It feels like summer is here–just in time for the inaugural Kingfield Traveling Block Party next Tuesday. The KFNA Crime Prevention & Safety Committee is transforming its meetings into parties this summer. From May through September, look for a traveling block party to pop up somewhere in Kingfield every third Tuesday! We have friendly neighbors, visiting cops, endless freezee pops, and plenty of impromptu fun…and every month we’ll be partying in a different spot in the neighborhood. Join us Tuesday, May 17, 6:30 pm as we kick it off at 36th and 1st Avenue–just look for the KFNA banner! In case of rain, we’ll be inside at MLK Park. And watch this e-news to find out where the party will pop up next…

The residents of the 4200 block of Garfield Avenue South in the Kingfield neighborhood are organizing a benefit to raise money to help pay the medical bills incurred by five-year-old Gabriel Grieling after being run over by a Minneapolis school bus on February 25, 2009.  Up until the day before the accident Gabriel and his mother were living on our block with his paternal grandparents Ralph and Linda Grieling. We are a close-knit block and are coming together as a community in order to help the Greiling family.

Garfield resident Kevin Kling, who is a nationally recognized playwright and storyteller best known for his commentary on the NPR show All Things Considered will be headlining the show.  Also on the bill are next-door neighbors Rosie Cole and Lloyd Brant who are best known for their popular comedy act The Wacky Chicken Show. Kevin, Rosie and Lloyd will lead an impressive line-up of entertainment that are coming together for the Gabriel Grieling Benefit.

With Sincere Thanks,
The Neighbors of the 4200 Garfield Ave. So.

Becoming a block leader is a great way to get involved with your community and your block– and remember, the best defense against crime is a connected block with neighbors looking out for each other. The training is informal and we encourage more than one representative per block to attend. Revised Crime Prevention Resource Manuals provided.
