NICOLLET AVE WILL BE CLOSED THIS SUNDAY (9/22)…

September 20, 2019 By Cheryl

With the exception of vehicles participating in Nicollet Open Streets, NO PARKING is allowed on Nicollet Ave between Lake and 46th Street from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Please don’t spoil your weekend by having your vehicle towed!

At 10:30am the police will begin shutting down the street for motor vehicle traffic. During the event, vehicles will be able to cross Nicollet Ave at a few select signalized intersections as directed by traffic control agents and police.

Nicollet Open Streets gives residents and visitors a chance to explore and enjoy our neighborhood, bringing together local businesses, institutions, artists, and neighbors to bike, walk, play, and shop in a car-free environment.

Community Safety Meeting 8/21/2019

August 17, 2019 By Cheryl

On August 2, 2019 at about 5:00 pm, officers responded to a 911 call about a suspicious vehicle parked in the 900 block of 42nd Street West. When they arrived, they spoke with a man inside the parked car and observed that there were also firearms inside the vehicle. There is no known connection to the Barton School building or to Barton students or personnel. There were no threats made regarding anyone by the man.

Minneapolis Police Department’s 5th Precinct will be holding a meeting regarding this incident. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 21st, from 6-7pm in the 5th Precinct’s Community Room. The Precinct is located at 3101 Nicollet Ave S. There is a public parking lot off of 1st Ave and 31st Street that you can park at and enter through either the 1st Ave door or Nicollet Ave door. The City of Minneapolis Community Attorney will be present, along with Inspector Amelia Huffman, Jennifer Waisanen (our Crime Prevention Specialist) and someone from the Minneapolis Public School and Safety Board. They will share the public details of the incident, talk about what they are doing and what the community can do to ensure public safety, and then open it up for brief questions in the end.

2019 National Night Out is Tuesday, August 6th

July 25, 2019 By Cheryl

National Night Out is an annual nationwide event that encourages residents to get out in the community, holding block parties and getting to know their neighbors as a way to encourage crime prevention. It’s a great way to promote community-police partnerships and enjoy a Minnesota summer evening surrounded by friends and family.

The easiest way to get started on a great NNO event is to have a meeting with interested neighbors. If you are new to NNO or would like some new options this year, review the NNO Activity Ideas sheet.

It is free to participate in National Night Out.  Just click here to register your block: http://apps.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/blockeventapp/

Registration also places you on the official list of NNO events that gets distributed to police and other departments. We send dozens of teams of officers, supervisors, and command staff to attend as many events as possible. However, there’s no guarantee police will be able to visit your event.

Even better, KFNA uses the City’s list to create our bike map to deliver ice cream made, and donated by, our neighborhood confectionary, Sebastian Joe’s. We have been working on a top secret new flavor with Sebastian Joe’s for this year…so make sure you register to get the first taste on August 6!

Questions about NNO or registering your block? Send us an e-mail:
