Issues of Concern / Neighborhood Crime Report:
Shooting at 41st and Nicollet on Sunday, July 29:
Hallstrom invited Officer Mattsson of the Mpls Park Police to give a report on how park security has and is dealing with this incident and those like it. Mattsson explained that they have extra patrols in the summer (utilizing school resource officers). He also explained that there are non-sworn Park Agents and unarmed Park Police that also patrol the parks. Mpls Park Police and Mpls Police worked together the night of the shooting.
Since the shooting is an open and active investigation Lt. Przynski and CPS Thompson were unable to talk openly about the case. It has been assigned to the State Gang Strike Force.
Residents that live where the shooting happened were invited to this meeting by Hallstrom and CPS Thompson – nobody showed up. Residents did have an opportunity to talk with police on NNO.
3943 Van Nest (active drug house): Van Nest residents reported in on activity at the drug house on their block. This house remains under observation by residents and police. It is believed that the house is now in foreclosure and that the current residents are squatting. The city has put up noticed to shut off the water etc. These notices have been torn down repeatedly.
38th and Stevens: There have been multiple garage thefts. One person has been arrested in connection to these crimes.
Community Organizing Strategies:
The Citizen Patrol will walk around 38th and Steven’s next week. Members of the patrol have also been turning in problem property reports to Hallstrom (as they see graffiti etc)
