Veit and Company Inc. has is scheduled pavement removal to begin with the week of May 10, although construction schedules are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances. Crews will be on Grand Ave this week performing reconstruction preparation work. This includes items such as survey work, placing inlet protection and inspecting sanitary manholes.
The project will include complete removal and replacement of the pavement surface, curb and gutter, storm drains, driveway approaches, sidewalk, signal, green stormwater infrastructure, trees and sod. Once the removals and underground utility work is complete, the new pavement can be installed. During much of construction, local access to businesses will be maintained, however, there will be times of temporary disruption. Crews will work to minimize this disruption.
- Our equipment is large and heavy and can be extremely dangerous. We urge you to stay at a safe distance at all times. Please make sure your children do not go beyond the sidewalk at any time in the construction area and that they stay away from material piles and equipment parked on or near the job site. Please observe all posted detour routes and warning signs and arrange to park on side streets or on another block when work is under way in your immediate area.
- Please help us prevent vandalism during construction. It not only delays the project but adds to the project costs. We appreciate your cooperation in reporting or preventing acts of vandalism if you witness it.
- If you have previously experienced any problems with your sewer and/or water connection it is recommended that you contact a licensed plumber as soon as possible to correct the problem before the street is paved. Having the work done now will save you time and money. One problem frequently encountered during street paving is the deteriorated condition and age of the private water and sewer services from the house or business to the City main in the street. Occasionally, because of the age and condition of these services, they may require repair or replacement within a relatively short period of time after the new paving is completed. If you are planning to upgrade your water or sewer service, please call the Construction Engineer or myself to coordinate your work with the project’s schedule.
- To install new curb and gutter and sidewalks, we will need to excavate within the City right-of-way. This area may extend about three feet beyond the existing sidewalk on the side opposite the street. After we complete this work we will remove our construction debris and place new topsoil and sod where it was disturbed. Any private lawn sprinkler systems, decorative carriage walks, special flowers, bushes or other decorative lawn items in the City right-of-way are the responsibility of the property owner.
