Outside the snow is falling…but it won’t last long! Join the Hennepin County Master Gardeners for their Vegetable Growing Basics classes at MLK Park kicking off on March 31st!
Master Gardeners will teach you how to plan a garden, start seeds, and tend your garden until harvest time. Classes will have hands-on activities so you get practice before you start your own garden. This class will be helpful for people new to vegetable gardening and also for those who want to learn new techniques and skills.
Classes are Tuesdays from 6:30–8 PM, beginning on March 31st, with a themed focus each week. Call 612-370-4908 to register or visit https://apm.activecommunities.com/minneapolisparks/Activity_Search/104971.
Optional for class attendees or for those that want to get their hands dirty:
After you’ve taken the class, come join us on Tuesday evenings throughout the spring and summer at the MLK Donation Garden. Volunteers in the community and Master Gardeners work together to grow a diverse array of vegetables to donate to the Aliveness Project’s kitchen and food shelf. North from the gardens on Nicollet Ave, the Aliveness Project is a community center for and driven by people living with HIV.
It’s a great opportunity to put the skills learned in Vegetable Basics into practice, as well as get together with your neighbors for a good cause. Everyone is welcome to join us, whether you’re stopping by for a single gardening topic or interested in coming every week. Join us Tuesday evenings starting in April at the MLK Park and check out our Facebook page (“The Donation Garden at MLK Park”) for specifics on weekly events and gardening tips!
