Yesterday the City Council’s Regulatory, Energy & Environment Committee approved the Climate Action Plan. Â The Plan will now be forwarded to the full City Council at their Committee of the Whole and regular meetings on June 27th and June 28th. Â While public testimony is generally not heard at these meetings, you can still contact your Council member with any comments regarding the plan. Â You can find your ward information byclicking here.
The Climate Action Plan is a road map to acheiving the City Council-adopted greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets: a 15 percent reduction by 2015 and a 30 percent reduction by 2025, both from 2006 levels. Â The plan contains aggressive goals and specific strategies to increase energy efficiency, provide more transportation options, reduce waste, and increase renewable energy. Â The plan is the product of over a year of public engagement, including a working group and steering committee structure, public open houses, and multiple surveys to collect feedback from Minneapolis residents and businesses.
