In 2021 Minneapolis will vote for all municipal offices including Mayor, City Council, Park & Recreation Board, and Board of Estimate & Taxation.
Minneapolis Democrat-Farmer-Laborer Party:
This year, the entire process will be conducted virtually. To participate, register for your precinct’s virtual caucus between April 1 and April 30 at caucus.dfl.org starting April 1. Know someone who can’t register online? Tell them to call (612) 552-4215 or text “2021†to (612) 712-7461.
Once you register you will receive a postcard with a confirmation code as well as an email with a link. There, you can indicate your candidate preference as well as whether you want to be a delegate to the virtual ward and city conventions. Between May 12 and May 18 everyone who has registered can vote for their precinct’s delegates to the city and ward conventions. These delegates will then vote on the DFL endorsement for Mayor, City Council, Park & Recreation Board, and Board of Estimate and Taxation.
More information is available at minneapolis.dfl.org, including a list of candidates seeking endorsement, details about the virtual caucus process, and alternative methods to participate for residents who do not have Internet access.
Other Political Parties:
Note: KFNA has contacted the city’s other political parties and will post information about how to participate in any caucuses that they are holding. What we have received is noted below. If you have additional information about how the Republican, Green, Legal Marijuana Now*, Grassroots-Legalize Cannabis, Green, Independence**, or Libertarian*** parties are conducting caucuses for the 2021 municipal elections, please let us know at .
- Please join the Legal Marijuana Now Party for our monthly meeting on zoom and follow our Facebook page for more up to date information at https://www.facebook.com/LMN.Minnesota. Candidates may declare a party affiliation and we are one of those parties. There is time to plan a winning campaign the zoom meeting is a great time to get started.
**The Independence-Alliance Party of Minnesota is open to running and endorsing candidates and are currently discussing our process and timing. Please direct any interested candidates to reach out to us via email at:  .
*** The Libertarian Party of Minnesota can endorse municipal candidates as long as there is no actual Libertarian Party nominee in the race. If an individual wishes to be a nominee or to seek an endorsement, they apply by submitting a form, and scheduling a time for a speech, Q&A, or brief interview. This is foremost done at the annual state party convention which will be May 8, 2021 at the Cambria Suites in Maple Grove. An interview and vote is required to verify that the candidate’s views align with liberty principles. You can find the convention details, our platform, our bylaws outlining endorsements, links to affiliates, a free Candidate Handbook for beginners in the Resources tab with an application form at the back of it, and also an online inquiry tab called Run For Office which includes a list of all open 2021 municipal elections that we are aware of in Minnesota. https://www.lpmn.org/run-for-office/
