Also on that block you can visit Recovery Bikes, who mixes old and new parts, to build a reasonably priced bike of your dreams while helping the environment. Staying with the environmental focus, on the 3600 block is also Minneapolis Solid Waste and Recycling and the Hennepin County Oasis parklet—stop by with your recycling and composting questions! Creative Minneapolis will also be there launching their new campaign engage community, diversity & culture around arts and economy with games and surveys.
At 37th Street, Butter Bakery Café anchors the north end of the block with a stage of spoken word and community poetry facilitated by Pierce the Liver and Word Sprouts. A Lion Dance will also be performed there at 1 PM by Hui’s Lucky Lion Dance Team and Green Dragon Kung Fu Association who practice out of the Center for Performing Arts. Quality Coaches is hosting a mini-car museum, for all you classic car buffs and the Center for Natural Healing will be on the street talking about holistic care of yourself. The Salvation Army will be offering fun games with prizes for all ages.
For grab-and-go food at 38th and Nicollet, Cinco de Mayo will be selling fresh fruit and Mexican corn on the cob and Finer Meats will be offering grilled hot dogs and ribs. If you want to sit and eat in one of the many beer gardens at the corner, Kyatchi and Blackbird Café are where you will want to head to; both are offering food and drinks out on the street so you can sit and fully enjoy the music from the Five Watts Stage.
Five Watts has put together a great band line-up featuring many local musicians including:
- 12PM The Ericksons

On the 3800 block, besides Blackbird Café’s Beer Garden, you can visit their always funky staff rummage sale, play a round or two of dollar Bingo with The Aliveness Project, and pet an exotic creature at the Nicollet Ace Hardware petting zoo. Rumor is that both a camel and a kangaroo will be there! You can leave your bike in their bike corral and enjoy either a pony or a grown-up horse ride too! The Tru Pizza truck will parked nearby as well; try out the newest Kingfield resident-owned taste experience!
On 39th Street itself, you will find the MN Bicycle Alliance providing a bike rodeo styled skill course. Bathrooms and fresh water are right near-by, if needed after all this fun, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). Tours will be offered of their building as well. You can also visit the Smash Car at Mulroy’s Body Shop, an example of what texting while driving can do, and visit with the folks from HourCar, our very own Kingfield-based car sharing team with a hub right on Nicollet Avenue!
