Sunday June 22, 8:30 AM- 1 PM, 4310 Nicollet Ave South
This week KFNA offers a look at “The ART of Community & Playâ€. Kingfield Artist, Rachel Breen, is back at the market and you can learn about her community “seeding†project as well as representatives from the Minneapolis Park board, presenting designs for comments for the new playground coming to MLK Park in 2015.
Rachel Breen will be having conversations with neighbors about what they have inherited and what they would like to pass on to future generations. She will be incorporating impressions from these conversations, along with images of heirloom seeds and plants into the creation of the murals she will make on neighborhood garages. According to Rachel, “My recent work has explored the practice of saving heirloom seeds, asking larger questions about what we have inherited from the past and the legacy we hope to leave behind. By focusing on my work on activity that humans have been doing for thousands of years to protect seeds, I ask the public to consider our role in sustaining the environment today and into the future. “
Playground Design Team Members will be at the Market to display the equipment design and collect comments from 10 AM- 1 PM. The design team is energized by the additional comments they received through the most recent survey. The comments are enriching both the theming and the play value to produce a better playground equipment design. The goal is to finalize the design on June 25, 2014, then bring it and the overall concept for the playground area to the MPRB for approval in July.
