    The KFNA Redevelopment Committee deals with issues and opportunities presented in Kingfield’s built environment including homes, businesses, and roads. The last six months the group has been exploring the value and possible parameters of creating a Small Area Plan for Kingfield. Although anyone is welcome to this meeting, architects, transportation planners, and urban design experts are especially encouraged to attend!

  2. KFNA Annual Meeting & Board Election—“Is That You, Neighbor?” | Monday, January 27th, 6:00 PM Potluck & Social Time, 7:00 PM Meeting | The Aliveness Project, 3808 Nicollet Avenue, 2nd Floor, Minneapolis

    Besides being fun, we need you at this meeting because you neighbors are the ones who interview and elect your fellow neighbors to serve on your neighborhood nonprofit board of directors!

    You can even be one of those board members, if you’d like— learn more by attending the board recruitment party on January 15, or simply nominate yourself at the Annual Meeting. Each KFNA Board member serves a two-year term, and attends monthly board meetings the 2nd Wednesday evening of each month.

    We expect the Annual Meeting to last until about 8:30 PM, at which point all will be invited to help us clean up and retire next door to Blackbird, where we will celebrate the new Board Elect with Happy Hour beginning at 9 PM!

    Tours of the new Aliveness Project site will be available from 5:45-6:30 PM for interested neighbors.

    MPS is working on the development of a new strategic plan that will articulate our priorities from 2014 to 2020. You are invited to share your feedback, which will be used help identify MPS’ initiatives and strategies.

  4. Made in Minnesota Residential Solar Workshop | Wednesday, January 29th, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM | Butter Bakery Café, 3700 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis

    The 2014 Made in Minnesota (MiM) solar incentive program has begun! This year, $15 million will be available for solar projects in Minnesota; approximately $7 million of which will be dedicated to residential solar projects and $7 million for commercial projects. MiM will help drive a faster-than-ever expansion of solar in our state. Please join us and your neighbors for an event laying out the why and how of residential solar and the MiM incentives.

    On the agenda:

    • Sarah Linnes-Robinson, Kingfield Neighborhood Association – Introduction
    • Dustin Denison, Principal of Applied Energy Innovations - Dustin will explain the key differences between the 2013 and 2014 rebate cycle and why 2014 will be the biggest year for solar in Minnesota so far
    • Kim Havey, Made In Minnesota Solar Program Coordinator, Minnesota Department of Commerce - Kim will be explaining how the Made in Minnesota program makes solar affordable for homeowners. Information is available at MN.Gov/Made-in-Minnesota
    • AEI will be offering free solar site reviews for those interested


  5. Pillsbury House Theatre’s Breaking Ice Company Explores Community Issues Raised by the Proposed Food Co-op | January 30th, 31st, and February 1st | Pillsbury House Theatre, 3505 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis

    Pillsbury House Theatre’s Breaking Ice Company of professional artists created a performance about our neighborhood and issues that have been brought to the forefront by the community surrounding the Seward Friendship Co-op, food access and jobs.

    Dates:

    • Thursday, January 30th
    • Friday, January 31st
    • Saturday, February 1st

    Time:

    • 7:00 PM (Doors Open at 6:30 PM)

    Handmade Bowls+ Handmade Soup= Kingfield Empty Bowls, an event to build community & raise funds for NICOLLET SQUARE, a home for formerly homeless youth in Kingfield

    Join and Share the event here!.

    The concept of the Kingfield Empty Bowls Event is simple: Attendees make a donation (suggested at $20 per bowl), select a beautiful handmade bowl donated by a local pottery artist, enjoy a hearty meal of soup prepared by volunteers, and then keep their bowl as a reminder that many of our neighbors are in need of food and housing.

    $10 for Kingfield Residents and $15 for Neighbors from Adjoining Neighborhoods; pizza, program and networking included. Full counter service available for beverages.

  8. The MLK Playground Community Workshop | Thursday, February 20th at 6:30 PM | Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 4055 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis

    The February 4, 2014 meeting has been canceled and rescheduled for Thursday, February 20th, 2014. The meeting will be held at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park (4055 Nicollet Avenue S) and will start 6:30 pm.

    At this meeting, the design team will present playground equipment options for the park that are being developed based on input from the community, projects artists and playground manufacturers. The community will be asked to review the equipment options, provide comment and work with the design team to finalize the play equipment for the park. At this meeting, the community and design team will also finalize the phasing strategy for the playground. All are welcome to participate – kids too! Children can engage in the design process and/or a child care program.

    Play Equipment RFP: To prepare for the February 20, 2014 meeting, playground manufactures are invited to submit playground equipment proposals per the direction provided in the Request for Proposals (RFP) that was released Monday, January 6, 2014. The RPF requests proposals that are consistent with the goal of creating a new playground for the park that celebrates and honors Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Civil Rights Movement and/or African American history.

The Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA) manages this List for the purpose of informing neighbors of events and issues that directly affect Kingfield neighborhood. This list is never shared nor sold to any other organizations. Kingfield is defined as 35W to Lyndale Avenue South and from 36th Street through 46th Street. All List recipients are invited to share neighborhood news with other members by sending messages to sarah@kingfield.org ; please indicate in the subject line that it is a message for the Kingfield E-mail List. All messages submitted by members for consideration of inclusion on the List must include complete contact information including name, phone, and email address. All messages will be screened and no partisan political messages will be posted. Ballot initiatives are not considered partisan political activity, and are permitted activities under KFNA's 501(c)(3) tax status.

The List Administrator will make the final decision as what information is posted to the Kingfield E-mail List and maintains the right to edit all messages. Many messages concerning neighborhood issues or questions we will simply answer directly, rather than posting to the entire list. Notices may also, or instead, at List Administrator's discretion be posted on the KFNA website
