  1. KFNA Board Meeting | Wednesday, March 12th, 7:00 PM | Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 4055 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis

    Meet Samantha Smart Merritt, Executive Director of InnerCity Tennis, at 7 PM and learn about the Program’s desire to renew their lease on MLK Park land, improve their facilities, and better serve the community. Also meet Peter Jaeger, new Director of MLK Park and Brad Bourn, 6th District Park Commissioner, both attending to introduce themselves to the new Board of Directors and outline their hopes and goals for MLK Park.

    Neighbors are always invited to come hear what the board is working on or bring their questions or concerns before the board. Community Forum is at the beginning of each meeting. This time is reserved for neighbors that want to come share news or ask questions. If you need more than 1-2 minutes, please contact Executive Director, Sarah Linnes-Robinson at sarah@kingfield.org and ask if there is time on the agenda for a more in depth discussion.


  2. Chicago-Style Stepping Dance | Every Friday in March, April, & May, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM | Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 4055 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis

    In Chicago they call it “Stepping”, or Chicago Style Stepping, in other parts of the country they call it Jazz dance, The Cake Walk, The Ringshout, The Jitterbug and The Swing. Come join us on Friday nights!

    Burn off some steam in the gym at Martin Luther King Park. Basketball, dodge ball, or make up a game with your friends. Adult parent/ mentors allowed with their children, activepass registration required.

    • Every Friday, 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM
    • MLK Park

    Night Owls is an Extended Hours Program on Friday nights from 8-11pm. Activities include life skills, sports, open gym, computer lab, movies and a variety of table, video and board games. Participants must be inside the ML King facility by 9:00pm (no admittance after 9:00pm - no exceptions) and there is no re-entry after 9:00pm. All youth and teens must have their Active Pass Card to participate. Gym users must wear gym attire. Curfews will be enforced: 12-14 years of age must leave for home no later than 10:30pm.

    Thoroughly Modern Millie is a comedic musical of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love – a thoroughly modern aim in 1922 when women were just entering the workforce.

    Buy tickets for "Thoroughly Modern Millie" at brownpapertickets.com. Online ticket sales close 12 hours before the start of each show. If you buy your tickets online, you will need to print and bring your tickets for admission to the show.

    General Admission tickets available at the door. Please arrive 20 minutes before performance begins, or up to 45 minutes before performance if you'd like to buy a ticket at the door. Performances occasionally sell out. Please arrive early.


  5. Seward Community Co-op Community Meeting | Tuesday, March 18th, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM | Sabathani Community Center gymnasium, 310 E 38th Street, 2nd floor, Minneapolis

    At this meeting Seward and neighbors will continue to discuss ways in which Seward and the community can work together to build a grocery store that best serves everyone. Seward would like to hear ideas on such topics as how the community classrooms can be used, what products should be on the shelves, and ways in which Seward can incorporate the history of the neighborhood into the design of the store.

    The event will be facilitated by Yvonne Cheek, president of the Millennium Consulting Group. The co-op will provide light snacks and beverages. Childcare and Spanish-language translation services will also be available.


  6. Making LinkedIn (the World’s Largest Professional Network!) Work for You | Four consecutive Thursdays beginning March 20th, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM | SoMakers Space (in the old Java Jack site), 818 W 46th Street, Minneapolis

    This course is organized by KFNA to address a challenge identified by the Kingfield Homebased Professional Group. For more information on this group, or to connect with them simply email info@kingfield.org.

    Each session is an hour with 20 minutes devoted to personal work, individual help and questions, except for week 3 where we will devote 30 minutes to pre-submitted questions.

    There will be homework each week. Laptop required.

    • Week 1 - Identify what you are trying to achieve. General overview of linkedin and how to set up your profile
    • Week 2 - Optimization, key words, adding media to your profile
    • Week 3 - Company pages and groups + 30 minutes of questions (must be submitted 6 days in advance)
    • Week 4 - Creating a strategy, testing, experimentation and additional resources

    You will leave with:

    1. a great profile
    2. ideas on how to use this tool based on your own unique business
    3. a deeper understanding of the platform
    4. a plan to move forward
    5. no fear!

    Sign up in advance $60 for all 4 sessions; $80 if registering day-of the first class or later. Maximum 10 people, minimum 6 people. I have worked for software houses, Wall Street traders and new media artists; and throughout have had the privilege to study the relationship that humans have with machines. My goal is to humanize technology and to empower and enthuse small business owners to embrace tools and use them to grow their business.


  7. 41st Annual Trombone Choir | Friday, March 21st, 4:00 PM | Judson Memorial Baptist Church, 4100 Harriet Avenue South, Minneapolis

    The Judson Music Series presents the Minneapolis Trombone Choir. The acclaimed Minneapolis Trombone Choir brings its big sound to Judson Church's magnificent sanctuary. More than 30 trombones plus tubas and euphoniums play the sweetest sounds of classical, big band, jazz and pop music in one of the Twin Cities' best acoustical environments. Don't miss the finale as the trombone choir and the audience march around the sanctuary to a rousing rendition of 76 Trombones!

  8. Gardening Opportunities in Kingfield!

    Pleasant Community Garden Plots
    Up to seven plots will be available for new gardeners this year. Besides receiving an individual plot, this garden group works together to plan events and educational opportunities to share their love of gardening, and to fundraise to expand gardening opportunities within our community. More information and applications are now available here!

    Need Some Advice on How to Start a Garden?
    Gardeners who need a little help getting started might want to start with the free Vegetable Gardening Basics 5-Class Course organized by KFNA and led by Hennepin County Master Gardeners at MLK Park, beginning April 1. More information and applications are now available here!

    “In the Garden” classes are also offered this Summer. It is the Second Year KFNA has partnered with Master Gardeners to offer a Gardening Class Series for Spanish Speakers! This six-part class will be led by University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardeners in Hennepin County and translated into Spanish by Kingfield neighbor Marianna Padilla. Call 612-547-6910 to register for “In the Garden.” The class will be held from 9 to 11 AM on the second Saturday of the month for six months: April 12, May 10, June 14, July 12, August 9, and September 13 at Sabathani, 310 East 38th Street.

The Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA) manages this List for the purpose of informing neighbors of events and issues that directly affect Kingfield neighborhood. This list is never shared nor sold to any other organizations. Kingfield is defined as 35W to Lyndale Avenue South and from 36th Street through 46th Street. All List recipients are invited to share neighborhood news with other members by sending messages to sarah@kingfield.org ; please indicate in the subject line that it is a message for the Kingfield E-mail List. All messages submitted by members for consideration of inclusion on the List must include complete contact information including name, phone, and email address. All messages will be screened and no partisan political messages will be posted. Ballot initiatives are not considered partisan political activity, and are permitted activities under KFNA's 501(c)(3) tax status.

The List Administrator will make the final decision as what information is posted to the Kingfield E-mail List and maintains the right to edit all messages. Many messages concerning neighborhood issues or questions we will simply answer directly, rather than posting to the entire list. Notices may also, or instead, at List Administrator's discretion be posted on the KFNA website
