Kingfield Residential Organics Collection Workshop & Drop-off
Every Saturday, 9:00 AM - Noon and every Tuesday, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM
MLK Park's Parking Lot, 4055 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis
Meat, bones, dairy, and fruit pits – did you know these and more are accepted at the MLK Organics Drop-off? These and many other items that can’t be composted in your backyard bin are accepted in the City’s drop-off and the citywide organics recycling program. Please remember, all items must be bagged in a compostable bag when dropped off; only Larger items such as pizza boxes and wax-coated (NOT plastic-coated!) boxes do not need to be bagged.
The MLK drop-off is open Tuesdays (4-7p.m.) and Saturdays (9a.m. – 12p.m.) for the next several weeks. After that, those who sign up will be emailed the code to the locks to use the drop-off at their convenience. Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) Budget Sessions
Various Dates and Locations
Minneapolis Public School families are invited to a special meeting to talk about MPS’ 2015-16 academic goals and how the budget supports them. There will be four meetings in four corners of the city:
- Tuesday, May 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sullivan/Anishinabe
- Wednesday, May 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Field Community School
- Thursday, May 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pillsbury Elementary
If you have ever wondered how MPS spends its money in support of students, here is your chance to get your questions answered. Refreshments, childcare and interpreters will be provided. Visit their website for complete details.

Kingfield Block Leader Celebration

Calling all Block Leads! This month's Crime Prevention and Safety meeting is all about thanking our Block Leads. Of course, we will have crime updates, but we will also share ideas about what it means to be a Block Lead and get a chance to meet other Block Leads in our neighborhood. Kingfield Farmers Market: Name that Bee and Home Energy Squad 'Enhanced'

The market was buzzing last week - 244 of our Kingfield Bees now have names! Each sponsor donated 50 cents to name a bee, and make a pledge to help the bees by providing a healthy, pollinator-friendly neighborhood. For the next 2 Sundays, we will continue to collect bee names, and on Sunday, June 7, the names of our two queen bees will be drawn from amongst the names submitted.
Also, Home Energy Squad Enhanced with the Center for Energy and Environment will be at the KFNA Table at the Kingfield Farmers Market with info on Home Energy Squad visits and home improvement loans. Lakewood Cemetery's Memorial Day Event

Lakewood Cemetery, Hennepin Avenue & 36th Street, Minneapolis
The day begins with a traditional ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and continues in the afternoon with tours and exhibits, music in Lakewood’s historic chapel and other activities. The event is free and open to the public.
Highlights:
- Commemorating Vietnam War 50th anniversary, with guest speaker James Fischer, president of the Minnesota State Council of the Vietnam Veterans of America. A lifelong Minneapolis resident, Fischer was stationed in Vietnam from September 1967 to November 1969 as a heavy construction machine operator with the 168 Combat Engineers
- Music by Robert Robinson and friends
- See the new award-winning Garden Mausoleum and historic Byzantine-style chapel

KFNA Seeking Input from Election Judges Whom Have Served in Precincts 8-6 & 8-7
Have you been an Election Judge in 8-6 or 8-7, in Kingfield (especially if you served at MLK Park, but could be even before the precincts moved to that site)? If so, we would love to talk with you about your experience and ideas!
We have been talking with Tim Schwarz the Election Specialist with the City to discuss precinct numbers, issues, and potential changes for the 2016 election and we would love to hear your first-hand thoughts. Email Sarah, KFNA Executive Director at sarah@kingfield.org.
