Kingfield Farmers Market: Garden Gleaning Project

Sunday, June 28th, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM

KFNA Table, 4310 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis

The Food Group is an innovative food bank dedicated to serving the hunger needs of our changing communities. Through our Fruits of the City program, we help communities grow and rescue produce for our over 200 local hunger relief partners. The Food Group seeks volunteers to glean produce at local backyard fruit trees and orchards, help rescue produce at local Farmer’s Markets, and grow produce intended for donation to their local food shelf. Be sure to stop by our table to learn more and receive free seeds and resources, such as our Fruits Tree Maintenance Guide, on growing fruits and vegetables: www.fruitsofthecity.org

All people benefit from practicing yoga, but kids seem especially able to embody yoga, unifying body, mind and spirit leading to self-awareness and healthy interpersonal relationships. Pati Richards has been working as a parent/child educator for 9 years. She is certified in Yoga Calm and brings her love of children, enthusiasm for movement and desire for holistic health to each class.

At Kids Yoga Day Camp, your child will learn poses and play yoga games that will support them physically and emotionally as they gain skills and confidence in cooperation, communication, leadership, compassion, strength, flexibility, mindfulness and creativity. This will be a good opportunity to deepen relationships between siblings and friends. Each day we will explore – our environment on a Meditation Walk, our food as we prepare healthy produce and taste other local, fresh food from the Kingfield Market. We will also explore our stories as we look inward and listen to what our bodies, hearts and minds are saying as we move our bodies in yoga asana (postures). We will tap into the power of our stories using art and creativity to express it outwardly.

  • $95 Early Bird Special (before 7/1) or $110 (after 7/1)
  • Limit 18 students ~ Ages 6-11

Kingfield Residential Organics Collection Workshop & Drop-off

MLK Park's Parking Lot, 4055 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis

Immediate: Organic Collection Changes at MLK Park

90 residents are already using the organics drop-off bins at MLK Park, and it is going so smoothly that we are cutting the volunteer-monitored drop-offs and instead giving residents the code to use the locked cans! This means that residents that have NOT started using this communal organics collection system yet will need to register on-line first, before they can drop their waste off. You can register at the City of Minneapolis’ Organics Drop-Off webpage. To see what can, and can’t be composted visit the FAQ tip sheet.

Kingfield PorchFest Recap

Kingfield PorchFest = 40 Musical Groups + 25 sites + 3hours = FUN!

Kingfield’s PorchFest offered a summer evening of uber-local, amazingly diverse music, co-mingled with active participation on the part of listeners…and the results were AWESOME!

Thank you to each and every musical performing group, our many hosts, and the hundreds and hundreds of participants that biked or walked from site to site over the three hours. We know there was so much music happening that there was truly no way you could hear it all! Hosts and musicians, we still would like to get your feedback on the evening: send your comments to sarah@kingfield.org and these will be taken into consideration as we begin planning for Kingfield PorchFest 2016!

Listeners, if you have comments we are happy to hear them as well including who was your favorite performer of the evening?! Let us know and maybe we can save them a spot on the Local Stage at Nicollet Open Streets in September!
