Applications are Available for Garden Plots at the Kingfield Community Pleasant Garden
Download an applications for the Kingfield Pleasant Community Garden here! We have 11 plots available for those Kingfielders that need a space to grow and want a chance to connect with the community. The application and the gardeners have been renamed to better showcase that this is a team of growers: Kingfield Pleasant Community Garden Club! Deadline to submit the application, Interest Survey, and payment is March 30th to participate in the lottery to receive a plot for the 2016 season…so don't delay. Documents can be found here:

Veggie Growing Basics Class
Five Consecutive Tuesdays, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM, beginning April 5th and ending May 3rd
MLK Park, 4055 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis
Learn about growing vegetables in your own yard or at a community garden. The program is taught by Hennepin County Master Gardeners and sponsored by Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and The Kingfield Neighborhood Association.

I-35W Access Project Community Open House
Tuesday, April 5th, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM (presentation at 6:30)
Colin Powell Center, 2921 4th Avenue, 3rd floor, Minneapolis
Hennepin County, along with project partners MnDOT, Metro Transit, and the City of Minneapolis, will host a public open house for the I-35W Transit Access Project. This is one of the last public meetings before municipal consent, which is planned to be requested from the City of Minneapolis in May 2016. Call for Public Artists: 40th Street Pedestrian Bridge, Artist-Designed Railing
The City of Minneapolis invites public artists to apply to design an artistic railing--with input from the community--for a new 40th Street Pedestrian Bridge spanning I-35W. The bridge serves pedestrians and bicyclists and links the east and west sections of the River Lake Greenway, a bicycle boulevard spanning from the Chain of Lakes to the Mississippi River.Application deadline: Friday, April 8, 4:00 PM

Hands-On Gardening Sessions at the ‘MLK Donation Garden’
Wednesdays (on the 3rd week of each month), 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
April 20th, 2016 through September 14th, 2016
MLK Donation Garden, 4055 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis
Regular Class Sessions will include: Hennepin County Master Gardeners will guide you through an entire vegetable growing season until harvest time, addressing all your home garden questions. Sessions will feature hands-on activities working the common communal plot at the park. At the first meeting, participants and Master Gardeners together will determine a schedule for helping in the garden at times outside the scheduled sessions. Produce grown will benefit the food shelf at the Aliveness Project, a nonprofit organization serving community members living with HIV/AIDS.

Organics Training Workshops
Saturday, April 9th
There are two Organics Recycling Training sessions scheduled for Saturday April 9, 2016 to answer resident questions and launch our new Recycling Block Leader Program.
Organics Recycling Training - April 9, 2016
- Session 1: 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Dr. Reverend Luther King Junior Memorial Park
- Session 2: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Folwell Park
The training sessions will include brief presentations from Minneapolis Solid Waste & Recycling, the City's commercial organics compost facility (Specialized Environmental Technologies), and staff from Hennepin County's Environment and Energy Department. Attendees will also be able to sign up to be the Recycling Block Leader for their block and pick up free yard signs to promote organics. For more information visit www.minneapolismn.gov/organics.
