Nicollet Avenue Public Art Community Mosaic Workshop #3
Thursday, May 19th, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
MLK Park, 4055 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis
Register by emailing sarah@kingfield.org! More info and images here and here!
- Workshops will be limited to 32 participants each; call or email KFNA at 612.823.5980 or info@kingfield.org to reserve your place at the table!
- Children as young as 6 are welcome, but each youth 12 or younger must be accompanied by an adult who also participates in the workshop.
As part of the City of Minneapolis’ Art in Public Places program, Twin Cities artists Ben Janssens and Marjorie Pitz, with input from a neighborhood public art committee, designed art for the 10-block stretch of reconstructed Nicollet from Lake Street to 40th Street. Gateway sculptures with an aviary theme can be seen at 40th and 36th streets, and sculptural bird stools and benches are being installed at six locations this spring.
These benches and stools on Nicollet are not yet complete, however; as part of the design the birds’ wings have been left blank, for community members to fill in. Mosaic artist Lori Greene has been working with students at Ramsey Middle School to create designs for the wings, and she will be running two community workshops where participants will transform these designs into colorful mosaic wings.

Opening Day at the 2016 Kingfield Farmers’ Market
Sunday May 22nd, 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM
4310 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis
Opening day of the 2016 Kingfield Farmers Market season is finally here! Prepare your recipes and shopping lists and head on down to the market for a morning of delicious food and fun! The early spring this year means the veggies are already popping up. Fill your shopping bag with kale, spring greens, green onions, rhubarb and asparagus! Many farmers will have healthy fruit, vegetable, and perennial plant starts so be sure to stop by before planting your garden! Sock up on local meats and cheeses, maple syrup, fermented vegetables, jams, bread and so much more. Enjoy coffee and breakfast or lunch from some amazing food trucks and bakeries as you shop. It's a beautiful time of year at the farmers market, don't miss the opening day!
Also at the KFNA Table...All hail the new queen (bee) as she begins her reign over a new hive in Kingfield! Fortunately, Queen Lily survived the Minnesota winter and looks to have a healthy start to a new year of pollinating plants in our neighborhood. Sadly, Queen Amelia was not so lucky. Please visit the Kingfield Neighborhood Association's table at the Kingfield Farmers Market and help us name our new queen and take a pledge to help our wonderful pollinators!
