Kingfield Empty Bowls Planning Meeting

Kingfield Empty Bowls 2018 will be here before we know it, and we are looking for volunteers to help create an inclusive and profitable community experience. Please let us know if you would like to be part of the team that helps host an event that celebrates our community and supports those less fortunate. All money raised through Kingfield Empty Bowls is donated to Nicollet Square, a project of Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative that provides a safe, affordable, and supportive Kingfield housing option for youth who have experienced long-term homelessness or have been in the foster care system.
Volunteers are invited to help with general event planning and outreach. (It’s fun, we promise!) Our first planning meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 4th, at 7 PM, at the MLK Park Recreation Center. We will meet monthly until the event on February 8, 2018.

KFNA meets monthly on the 2nd Wednesday and begins each meeting with a Community Forum, which is your chance to bring up a concern or community-related question to your local nonprofit. Community Bon[ding] Fire

Join your neighbors for the annual Bonfire at Martin Luther King Park on Friday, October 13th, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. We’ll have hot cider and s’mores, plus some “enlightening” and fun entertainment! Bring a neighbor–it’s free, and all ages are welcome!

KFNA + CFPA = pizza pARTy(Yep, that means an outdoor art-filled pizza event at the wood-fired oven!)
Friday, October 13th, beginning at 5:30 PM
KFNA Community Outdoor Oven, 3754 Pleasant Avenue South (behind the Center for Performing Arts), Minneapolis
Come join the Center for Performing Arts and its’ tenants (which include the Kingfield Neighborhood Association) for a slice, and live performances around the fire.
Suggested donation of $10 per person. All ages welcome!
The oven will be hot, literally 800 degrees of hot, and we will be baking pizza for neighbors to sample. Live performances will occur around a bonfire throughout the evening. Pack a beverage (no bottles on site, please), and wander on down and enjoy the evening.
KFNA hosts regular oven events the 2nd weekend of each month until the snow flies, so be sure you are receiving the Kingfield weekly e-News—sign up on www.kingfield.org (right-hand side of the page)–where notices will be shared about upcoming oven dates, registration details, and the focus of each unique event. The Crossover: Art + Basketball
October 23rd – 27th, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

$10 Minneapolis residents; $15 non-residents
Open to ages 11–18.
Let’s use a basketball backboard as a canvas to explore the basic elements of art. Taught by artist Twin Cities aerosol-art pioneer Peyton Russell, this week-long class will be inspired by artworks in Mia’s collection. Kingfield Composting Survey
The Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA) has created an “Organic Recycling” survey to assess barriers and benefits for neighbors related to the City of Minneapolis’ curbside compost pick-up program. Please take the following brief survey whether you currently participate in the program or not: take online survey here
KFNA will be working in the coming year to increase participation in this program. If you are interested in being a member of this Rocking Organic Team (ROT!) just send an email to Sarah@kingfield.org. We will be hosting a Composting Café at Butter Bakery as our first team meeting in the coming weeks.
