3a) KFNA Board Meeting
Wednesday, October 13th, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
On Zoom
Community Forum is the chance for any resident or property owner to bring their question or concern to the KFNA Board. This month the KFNA will also be discussing the three Minneapolis Charter Amendments, as well as outreach plans for building community this winter.
3b) SW Voices has launched...in partnership with neighborhood associations including KFNA!
Southwest Voices is a new news and information service for Southwest Minneapolis. They believe this corner of the city deserves a news source that both celebrates its strengths and reveals its shortcomings so it can become a more welcoming and caring community.
They will be launching a membership program in the next couple weeks. When that happens, a portion of their membership revenue will go directly to Neighborhood Associations, including Kingfield Neighborhood Association.
In the meantime, you should sign-up for their email list on their website, SouthwestVoices.news, or follow them on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook @SWVoicesMPLS.
3c) Minneapolis Public School Parents Urge the District to Adopt Outdoor Lunch as Plan A
Please review and consider signing the petition (also in Espanol | Hmoob | Soomaali) urging MPS to consider a districtwide policy for outdoor lunch to lower the risk of transmission of COVID-19, resulting in a safer environment for staff and students and likely fewer disruptions to in-person instruction.

4a) Tree Pruning for Fruit Production; a hands-on workshop with the U of M Department of Urban & Community Forestry and the MPLS Park & Rec Forestry Department
October 10th, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Space is limited to 15 attendees. A commitment to caring for and maintaining our urban community orchard in MLK Park throughout 2022 is required and this work is expected to take about 20 hours per person.
Spend an afternoon with Eric North, Assistant Professor of Urban and Community Forestry at the U of M (https://forestry.umn.edu/people/eric-north) and in partnership with the Minneapolis Park Board Forestry Department, learning how to prune a variety of fruit trees to increase production. The goal of this workshop is to form and educate a team of Kingfield neighbors in the planting, maintenance, harvesting, and decisions involved in caring for and nurturing our urban orchard which currently includes 4 pear, 3 sour cherry, 3 plum, 8 apple, and a handful of service berry trees (and more planned to be added next spring!)
There is no cost to participate in the workshop, however, KFNA (the Kingfield Neighborhood Association) is asking for a commitment of about 20 hours per participant next year in our orchard. Tasks will include: planning meetings, plantings, pruning dates, ongoing watering, disease monitoring, and hosting harvest and educational events for the broader community. Participation in this workshop, and on this team, is limited to 15 residents.
At the workshop we will spend about 1.5 hours of indoor classroom time and about the same amount in Kingfield's Community Orchard, located in Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 4055 Nicollet. The indoor classroom will be socially distanced and participants will be required to wear masks. Masks will be optional outdoors if you are vaccinated. All tools will be provided.
Register here. Questions contact sarah@kingfield.org

5a) Community Redevelopment Meeting regarding Housing Proposal at 3536 Nicollet
Wednesday, October 20th, 6:30 PM -7:30 PM
On Zoom: For the meeting code please email sarah@kingfield.org and put ‘3536 Nicollet Meeting’ in the subject line.
Kingfield & Lyndale Neighborhood Associations are hosting a community meeting regarding a new 196 unit housing development project being planned for 3536 Nicollet Avenue in the Lyndale Neighborhood. The Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA) Redevelopment Committee and Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) Housing Committee had the opportunity to review the developer’s proposal in mid-September. The committees are now hosting a special committee meeting via Zoom to allow interested neighbors to learn about the project and ask questions of the developers, Sean Sweeney and Jeff Hall of Hall Sweeney Properties. Neighbors and property owners within a block of the project have been notified by direct invitation.
Although it would be our preference to hold this meeting in person, due to COVID safety procedures and a lack of meeting spaces open that will allow for social distancing at this time, this virtual meeting will need to suffice. Please submit any project questions you have BEFORE the meeting so we can ask them, and the project architect, to cover these in the presentation. For questions, please email sarah@kingfield.org and put ‘3536 Nicollet Meeting’ in the subject line.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday October 20, 6:30-7:30 PM. To get the code to attend the meeting please email sarah@kingfield.org and put ‘3536 Nicollet Meeting’ in the subject line. You will receive an email with a link to join the meeting. If you have emailed questions about the project as outlined above, we will be sending you the meeting link as well.
