1) Tuesday March 8th, 2022 is the first day that the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers (MFT) and Educational Support Specialists (ESP) are on Strike.
- All preK-12 classes will be canceled and families should plan for child care.
- MPS will provide emergency child supervision on an extremely limited basis to families with young children for whom child care presents a significant hardship. Beginning on the first day of the strike, families should reach out to their schools for more information if they need emergency child supervision. Pre-registration is not possible and schools do not currently have the information you need – but will if a strike starts.
- A meal will be provided with one breakfast and one lunch and can be picked up at your school every day the strike continues.
- School based clinics and mental health services will continue to be available at your school for youth.
- Varsity athletics will continue but all other after school activities will cease.
- Ten Minneapolis Parks are serving s Hubs and are offering extended hours and services IF a strike happens. 12-3 PM will be for registered participants K-8 grade, and 3-9 PM will be drop in for all youth. The closest parks with this additional programming to Kingfield & Lyndale residents is Bryant Square and Whittier Recreation Centers. Other sites will retain their 3-9 PM programming including YouthLine workers for teen engagement.

Come celebrate St. Patrick's Day at Zion Church's monthly community dinner! For the second year in a row, there will be hand pies and St. Patrick's Day cookies from Butter Bakery that can be taken to go or eaten around outdoor fire pits at Zion Church, weather permitting, so come gather with your neighbors in a COVID safe manner.
This donation-based gathering offers for attendees to “pay as you can”. Questions? Email organizer@lyndale.org.
4) Join KFNA for a Pancake Breakfast—Made Even Better with Kingfield’s Very Own Maple Syrup!
Saturday, March 19th, 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
MLK Park (Stay tuned if dining will be indoors or out!)
Tickets available here
Bring the family down to the park to watch the sap boil and enjoy a good ol’ fashioned pancake breakfast, served with sausage (pork), fruit, juice and coffee! Learn how maple syrup is made—and enjoy some of Kingfield’s own syrup from 2021 on your pancakes! Proceeds from the breakfast benefit both KFNA and MLK Park programming, partners in this community Sap Tap which is in its 4th year of seasonal celebration!
So what is a Community Sap Tap? Neighbors register at the park to pick up a tree tapping kit and instructions on how to tap their personal maple (or box elder!) tree. Then all the participants bring the sap to the park and we collectively boil it down to syrup, and then share the results! Kits are gone for this year…but join us for pancakes, learn about the process, and plan to join KFNA in this fun seasonal activity again next spring!
5) I Can See Clearly Now, the New Grand Avenue Lights Are On...
Grand Avenue has new street lights. Some neighbors have expressed concerns that they are too bright and the direction of the glare is not cast downward enough to avoid coming through their windows. The City of Minneapolis is looking into the issue and is interested in how many people see the lighting as a problem. Please complete the short 1 minute survey here.
