The 32nd Annual Minneapolis National Night Out is Tuesday, August 4, 2015: Register Your Party Now!

Annual National Night Out Registration Deadline: July 21 for free street closure permit

This year’s event will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2015. It is free to participate in National Night Out. When you register your event, you will get free Mystery Point Passes for Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America. Not to mention personal ice cream delivery service from Kingfield Neighborhood Association Board Members and Staff and mixed just for KFNA by our very own Sebastian Joe’s! Registration also places you on the official list of NNO events that gets distributed to police and other departments. Registering your NNO event and applying to close your street/alley is a single online process.

You will need permission of 75% of your neighbors to be approved for street closure —keep their names and addresses handy in the event your permit application needs to be reviewed. So, contact your block and then click here to get started.

If you register by July 21 you can block your street for free. If you register from July 22 through July 29, there is a $100 fee. You will not be able to block off your street if registering after July 29. Note: Not every street can be blocked off depending on the traffic flow. Generally, bus routes and high traffic streets cannot be used for block events.

Safe Routes to School Meeting Regarding Lyndale Community School

Monday, July 27th

Painter Park, 620 W 34th Street, Minneapolis

The City of Minneapolis was recently awarded funding to improve several pedestrian crossings near Lyndale School. City staff worked closely with the school to identify three priority intersections, which were then included in the funding application. The project staff would like community feedback on the proposal before beginning the engineering/design phase. Construction is expected to take place summer 2016.

Please attend the Lyndale Neighborhood Association General Membership Meeting on July 27th, 6:30pm at Painter Park to discuss the project with City staff. Visit the project webpage here for more information

What makes your neighborhood special?

Please respond to this survey by August 5th (note deadline is the day AFTER National Night Out—just in case your memory needs a little jogging about why Kingfield is so great!)

Please take this opportunity to be part of an anonymous online survey about the character of Kingfield neighborhood and the places you feel are important to it. The survey is being distributed to residents of Southwest Minneapolis neighborhoods and is a chance to express your views about what makes your neighborhood special. The results of this study will be made available to the neighborhood, so you will be able to discover the diverse views your neighbors have about Kingfield. This study is being conducted by Madelyn Sundberg, a Kingfield resident and graduate student at the University of Minnesota, for her M.S. in Architecture: Heritage Conservation and Preservation thesis under the guidance of Professor Greg Donofrio. If you have questions, you are encouraged to contact them at sundb173@umn.edu or donofrio@umn.edu.

The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and you will be given the option to enter your email address at the end of the survey for a chance to win an iPad Air. To participate in this survey please click the following link: SURVEY

Garden to Table Dinner

Saturday, August 15th, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Kingfield’s Pleasant Community Garden, 3754 Pleasant Avenue South, Minneapolis (located just north of the Center of Performing Arts)

$ 55 per person/ limit 12 guests

Come enjoy a four course dinner prepared by Community Garden coordinator, Kingfield resident, Butter Bakery Cafe’s bakery manager and lover of a good meal, Suzie Lillyblad. She will be joined in preparing the meal, by a group of food-loving community gardeners. This serene outdoor venue gives guests the unique experience of dinning in the beautiful surroundings of the KFNA’s Pleasant Community Garden.

This is a truly local meal, with some ingredients supplied by vendors at the Kingfield Farmers Market and others that have been grown in Suzie’s community garden plot. Where else can you dine right next to where the ingredients are grown and harvested?

Funds raised through this special KFNA Community Garden Event will help build Kingfield's first wood-fired community oven at this site in the fall. Before dinner, tour the community garden and learn about our plans to build the community bread oven.

Find Kingfield Community Gardens on Facebook to see pictures of previous dinners and sample menus.

Cost: $55 per person $40 of the cost of your ticket may be deducted as a tax-deductible donation to KFNA, as the law allows.

Location: Pleasant Community Garden, W. 38th St. and Pleasant Ave., Minneapolis

TO MAKE A RESERVATION: Email info@kingfield.org with your name, contact info, and how many seats you need. We will contact you to confirm your reservation and arrange pre-payment.

In case of rain, the dinner will be relocated to a sheltered location and proceed as planned!
