Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA) Board Meeting

Wednesday, June 7th, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

MLK Park (Arts & Craft Room), 4055 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis

The KFNA Board of Directors meets monthly to manage the affairs of the neighborhood nonprofit. Come discuss the joint 4-neighborhood project to increase voter turnout in 2017, learn about two Eagle Scout projects happening this summer to benefit Kingfield, and get the final details on PorchFest!

Each meeting begins with Community Forum, which is a chance for neighbors to bring forth questions, concerns, or simply introduce themselves to the Board. If you would like more than 2-3 minutes on the agenda please contact Executive Director Sarah Linnes-Robinson at sarah@kingfield.org to discuss timing and inclusion on the agenda.

Kingfield PorchFest 2017: A Festival on the Profoundly Small Scale!

Remember--all musicians are playing for free, so pack your pockets full of change to tip those talented neighbors!

What Is Kingfield PorchFest?
PorchFest is an evening of acoustical music held at multiple outdoor venues throughout Kingfield on a single evening. PorchFest is a chance for musicians to share their music with their neighbors and a chance for neighbors to walk the dog, stroll the baby, or pack a cool beverage and meander with their sweetie from home to home enjoying the talent of our amazing neighborhood!

Raising Awareness and Money for Immigrant Needs

Saturday, June 10th, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM

4217 Garfield Avenue, Minneapolis

Please join us for an evening of appetizers, drinks and good company as we raise awareness and money to support two organizations who provided important services to our immigrant community in Minnesota.

  • The International Institute of MN delivers services and resources to assist New Americans in the transition to a new life leading to economic self-sufficiency. It is nationally recognized for its job training programs, which have long lasting community benefits.
  • The Immigrant Law Center of MN provides direct legal services, education, and advocacy, allowing ILCM to comprehensively respond to and prevent immigration legal problems.

Appetizers will be provided by Afro Deli and Grill, an immigrant-run catering business.

Suggested donation for event ticket is $50. All proceeds will go to the two organizations listed above. If you are not able to attend, but would like to give a contribution, you contribute online using the links below. Please put in a comment referring to donating in collaboration with the Garfield Resistance Group.

Kingfield Farmers’ Market: 9-1-1 Tips at the KFNA Table

Minneapolis 911 staff will be available at the Kingfield Farmers Market to offer tips and information about calling 911 and answer any questions you may have. Be sure to stop by and thank them for helping to keep our neighborhood safe. 911 Personnel will be available from 8:30am-1pm at the Kingfield Neighborhood Association table, located to the right as you enter the market.

1st Ever Kingfield Community Bread Bake

Saturday, June 10th, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Kingfield’s Outdoor Oven, behind 3754 Pleasant Avenue, Minneapolis

After almost one year of pizza test bakes, we feel like we know our new oven well enough to try our hand at bread! For this first time event we are providing all the dough so we can keep careful notes about what works…and what doesn’t go so well! But you are invited to come watch us move loaves through the cycle and sample the results. Bring smearings* if you want, and come hang out and enjoy the learning process!

4-H Camp in the City

MLK Park, 4055 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis

Join us for 4-H Camp in the City! This camp will be filled with exciting hands-on activities and group challenges, plus one field day spent canoeing, swimming, or exploring nature.

WHERE: Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 4055 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55409
WHEN: Register for one or both camps via the links below

WHO: Youth in grades: 3rd-7th. Youth in grades 6-7th will be considered Jr. counselors. Limited to 15 campers.
COST: $80 per camper. Partial scholarships are available.

Southwest Senior Center Closing, Farewell Celebration of 41 Years of Service

Southwest Senior Center to Close on June 30

After 41 years of providing services to Minneapolis seniors, Volunteers of America-MN/WI's Southwest Senior Center will be closing its doors and the center will no longer provide social work, adult day, senior dining, exercise classes and wellness services. The center served over 1,000 seniors in 2016. Center staff are working with other community organizations to find homes for programs like the exercise classes and options for people in the adult day program.

The Center will hold a Farewell Party on Friday, June 30 from noon - 2:30 pm at 3612 Bryant Avenue S.

The Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA) manages this List for the purpose of informing neighbors of events and issues that directly affect Kingfield neighborhood. This list is never shared nor sold to any other organizations. Kingfield is defined as 35W to Lyndale Avenue South and from 36th Street through 46th Street. All List recipients are invited to share neighborhood news with other members by sending messages to sarah@kingfield.org ; please indicate in the subject line that it is a message for the Kingfield E-mail List. All messages submitted by members for consideration of inclusion on the List must include complete contact information including name, phone, and email address. All messages will be screened and no partisan political messages will be posted. Ballot initiatives are not considered partisan political activity, and are permitted activities under KFNA's 501(c)(3) tax status.

The List Administrator will make the final decision as what information is posted to the Kingfield E-mail List and maintains the right to edit all messages. Many messages concerning neighborhood issues or questions we will simply answer directly, rather than posting to the entire list. Notices may also, or instead, at List Administrator's discretion be posted on the KFNA website
