Get your free COVID-19 vaccination

December 10, 2021 By Sarah

Vaccination is the strongest defense against the delta variant. Get a free COVID-19 vaccine at a Minneapolis Health Department clinic. Walk-ins are welcome, and the vaccinations are free. You don’t need insurance, you don’t need an appointment and you don’t need an ID. Questions about the vaccines? Watch and share this video for 11 things you should know about COVID-19 vaccines.

Find more information, updates and new free community vaccinations on the City website.

Other ways to get a vaccine

Vaccines work. If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, get a free vaccine as soon as you can. About nine out of 10 Americans live within 5 miles of a COVID-19 vaccination site.

  • To find the site closest to you, visit vaccines.gov, text your ZIP code to 438829 (GETVAX); or call 1-800-232-0233.
  • Find COVID-19 vaccine appointments at the CDC’s VaccineFinder. You can filter by location and search for Pfizer only for 12-17-year-olds.
  • Find vaccine locations and providers near you using the State’s interactive map.
  • Sign up for the Minnesota COVID-19 vaccine connector in English, Spanish, Somali or Hmong to get contacted about vaccine in your area.
  • Contact your primary health care provider or a local pharmacy.

Sick and safe time covers vaccine appointments

Accrued sick and safe time hours can be used to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and recover from any side effects. Learn more about the City’s Sick and Safe Time ordinance.

August 2, 2021 By Sarah

Any Minnesotan age 12 years or older who receives their first dose of their COVID-19 vaccine between now and Sunday, Aug. 15 can get a $100 Visa gift card. After you get your dose, you can claim your gift card on this state website starting Wednesday, Aug 4. The offer is limited to the first 24,330 Minnesotans who qualify, so be sure to get your vaccine soon! To find a vaccine clinic near you, you can use the state’s Vaccine Connector website or its Vaccine Locator Map. You can also contact your health care provider or your local pharmacy.

Remember to ask for a Pfizer vaccine for children ages 12 to 17. The Pfizer vaccine – which is approved for people 12 and older – is available at some state vaccination sites as well as some County vaccination sites (which are also offering $50 visa cards to those who get vaccinated).

In addition, the City offers free vaccines every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Park Avenue United Methodist Church (3400 Park Ave) – no insurance, appointment or ID required. Or, to find the vaccine clinic closest to you, you can also text your ZIP code to 4388829 (GETVAX) or call 1-800-232-0233. Accrued sick and safe time hours can be used to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and recover from any side effects. Learn more about the City’s sick and safe time ordinance here.

Temporary discount on monthly broadband bills for qualifying households

May 19, 2021 By Sarah

To help families and households afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program is temporarily discounting monthly broadband bills for qualifying households. This new benefit will connect eligible households to jobs, critical healthcare services, virtual classrooms and everything we need the internet for.

If your household is eligible, you can receive:

  • Up to a $50/month discount on your broadband service and associated equipment rentals.
  • A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet or desktop computer (with a co-payment of more than $10 but less than $50).

Apply now for the Federal Communications Commission Emergency Broadband Benefit Program. The program will end when the fund runs out of money or six months after the Department of Health and Human Services declares an end to the COVID-19 health emergency, whichever is sooner.

Actions to Promote Peace: Practice Safe Protesting

April 19, 2021 By Sarah

Many gatherings, protests, and events will be happening in the coming days. It is important for you to particpate in these actions of protest, healing and support. However, it is important to particpate in ways that keep your own body safe, and protect the safety of others with whom you are gathering.

Please follow these Safe Protest Practices:

  • attend with a friend and designate a meeting place if you get separated,
  • let another friend or your family know where you are going,
  • write your name and number and an emergency contact’s name and number on your arm.
  • bring your fully charged cell phone and a mobile charger,
  • wear a good quality face mask and consider bringing safety goggles,
  • bring drinking water and a snack,
  • strip down your wallet but include your ID and a small amount of cash,
  • pack a basic first aid kit for your use, and also to assist others.

Stay aware of your surroundings and have an exit strategy. And above all else know your rights and be prepared to state them loudly and calmly.
