Saturday September 6th, 2025 – Center for Performing Arts
Following a competitive application process, the Minnesota Humanities Center (MHC) with Danger Boat Productions has announced Kingfield as a stop on the 2025 Sketches of Minnesota traveling “civic-improv comedy” tour.
The event is being organized by the Kingfield Neighborhood Association and will take place on September 6 at Center for Performing Arts (3754 Pleasant Ave) beginning at 12 PM. Free tickets can be reserved on this page once they become available in late July.
“Sketches of Minnesota will use laughter and comedy to celebrate Minnesota communities, promote dialogue, bridge divides, and help find ways to work constructively across differences in today’s political environment,” said Trygve Throntveit, Director of Civic Renewal with MHC.
The event will open with a free meal and facilitated conversation, asking audience members to share what makes Kingfield great, what they think people get wrong about it, what local divisions concern them, and what future they imagine. An improv troupe from Danger Boat Productions will listen in on the conversations, then take everything they heard from residents and bring it to life on stage through entirely unscripted improv comedy theater.
“Each show will both help tell a story of a place and reflect back for that community real conversations that are happening in that town,” said Tane Danger, co-founder of Danger Boat. “We never punch down with our comedy. These shows will be sincere, and sincerely hilarious.”
The aim of Sketches of Minnesota is to foster understanding within and across communities, celebrate the state’s diversity, and showcase what residents cherish most about their corner of Minnesota. We hope to see you there!
