Kingfield Neighborhood enters into an annual Stewardship Agreement with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) to care for the land on the north side of the park building. This land includes an orchard with apple, sour cherry, plum, and pear trees, as well as a series of raised beds where volunteers grow vegetables for The Aliveness Project, a local meal program that serves people living with HIV/AIDS. The garden group meets every Tuesday evening, May-September, at 5:30-6:30. New neighbors are always welcome to join!
Beginning in 2024, the Urban Sap Tap Project will also use this area to demonstrate how to safely tap maple trees. After the sap runs, they will show community members how to boil the collected sap down into sweet maple syrup!
Thank you to MLK Park and the MPRB Forestry Department for their partnership allowing neighbors to grow food and community in our park!
