SAFETY IS COMMUNAL: FROM FEAR TO FOCUS

REGISTER HERE for this virtual workshop:
(identical workshop also offered on March 7th–see registration options.)

As we come to 1 year of the Covid-19 pandemic and the beginning of the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder or George Floyd, Kingfield neighbors are putting together 100 Days of Community – a way to get neighbors connected, have conversations about safety, and come together as a neighborhood for antiracist learning and action for safety beyond policing.

This 1.5-hour workshop begins with a comprehensive overview of the neuroscience of fear and safety based on the Vagus Nerve. Through a series of interactive, reflective activities, we will learn how to name fear responses and apply specific coping skills that decrease harm and increase intention and compassion in responding appropriately.

Facilitated by Abbie Shain MSW LGSW (she/her). Abbie is a community organizer and a clinical social worker. As a person engaged in social justice work and a specialist in complex trauma, she is attentive to how power is present in the therapy room. Outside of clinical practice, Abbie consults locally and nationally around integrating trauma-informed reflective practice into social justice work and organizational life. She is a member of the boards of Jewish Community Action and Shir Tikvah Congregation. Abbie attended Macalester College and the University of Minnesota School of Social Work.

— Closed Captioning will be available. If you have accessibility needs, please let us know below.
— Zoom link will be sent the day of the workshop.
