Kingfield Cookie Swap, 2020!

Smaller gatherings this holiday season means less baking (like seriously, who really wants 12 dozen cookies in your house?!) But it is nice to get a taste of all the holiday favorites, so this challenging year KFNA is excited to offer a cookie swap!

Sign up here to participate by baking and exchanging cookies on SATURDAY DECEMBER 12. To make sure those homebound by COVID concerns or quarantine also get a touch of kindness at the holidays, you can also donate extra cookies and/or nominate a neighbor to receive cookies.

By registering here you are committing to the following:
1)     Bring a minimum of TWO DOZEN homemade cookies, pre-packaged with six cookies per bag, on Saturday, December 12, between 10-11:30 AM to the KFNA Office at 3537 NICOLLET AVENUE. Please include at least ONE copy of the recipe with each type of cookie you bring (include a recipe attached to each bag, if you are able).

2)     At drop-off you will sign-up for a pick-up time on Saturday afternoon between Noon and 2 PM. Group size will be kept small to allow for social distancing as you select your cookie packs to replace the amount you delivered! At 2:00 any remaining cookies will be taken to the Aliveness Project or will be distributed to Kingfield’s homebound neighbors!

Please be sure to wear a mask at drop-off and at pick up. If you have any questions contact KFNA at or 612.823-5980.

This project is brought to you by your Kingfield Block Contacts, working to build community and connect neighbors across the entire neighborhood. To Join the Block Contact Group just contact KFNA!

Light It Up, Kingfield!

Light up the luminaries, the fire pits, the holiday lights on Mondays and let’s create a walk of wonder through our Kingfield Streets! The dark is coming and together we will keep it at bay!

Dec. 7: The Ugly Sweater Edition (or Face Mask?!)
Dec. 14: “Do You Want to Build A Snowman?” Bring on your inner Elsa!
Dec. 21: Bring on the Sing with “This Little Light of Mine”, scheduled in harmony with MPR!
Download the poster to print and share with your neighbors! Light It Up Kingfield Poster
Be part of the Light It Up event simply by turning on your holiday lights or setting out candles on your front walkway. They can be any sort of lanterns, glass jars (check your recycle bin, just add a candle!) or make your own out of ice. (Check www.kingfield.org in the coming days for luminary template ideas.) Then simply bundle up for a walk around your neighborhood to enjoy the glow.

A Public History of I-35W: New Research virtual event

Join a conversation about the history of organizing and activism to pass “Open Housing” laws in Minnesota and the Twin Cities. These laws were aimed at preventing discrimination on the basis of race, religion, and ethnicity. We’ll examine the real estate practices and personal prejudices that made open housing laws a necessity. Hear the story of one Black family’s fight to move to Edina after being displaced by I-35W in south Minneapolis. Hennepin History Museum and the Minnesota Department of Transportation are the hosts of the program.

A Racial Justice Bridgil (Bridge + Vigil = Bridgil!)

We meet every Tuesday  on the 38th Street bridge in solidarity with the BLM movement to say Enough is Enough – not one more. Bring signs or hold some of ours – let’s commit to taking action and bringing an anti-racist lens to all of our interactions. Note time change due to daylight savings…now from 4-5 PM.

https://www.facebook.com/events/264103781682980/

Bring your own signs, or come hold a piece of a larger banner, reminding drivers on 35W that the work of racial justice needs to continue to take place every day. This activist-action can be your weekly reminder to keep up the daily fight for a more just and equitable society.

Note to attendees: Wear more clothing than this photo depicts.

Future of Safety: What the City is working toward

Register in advance for this meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0rdeiopzojGdUbe360S31SE7vESgXYC_sV

As you may be aware the northside of Minneapolis is facing the highest crime that residents have seen in many years. The Jordan neighborhood, where JACC is located, is under siege with gun violence. Jordan residents report incidents of violence, on a daily basis, many lives have been lost, families are grieving and suffering due to gun violence. We continue to ponder what is the long term impact and what does it take to end gun violence.

Many Jordan community residents and block club leaders, along with the JACC board of Directors, staff of various offices, such as the mayor’s office, the chief of police, US Atty General and the DOJ have worked together to coordinate a community forum to address the surge of gun violence that has taken over our neighborhoods and the entire city of Minneapolis.

This will be a virtual meeting, via zoom, and a facilitator will guide and lead the conversation. It will be a panel discussion to include residents, the mayor, chief of police and the US Attorney General. We anticipate there will be many questions, we will ask individuals to submit questions in advance, prior to the meeting. Questions will also be taken during the meeting, via the chat format.
