Grand Avenue Open Houses

The City of Minneapolis is holding public open houses to share updates, answer questions, and collect feedback on the proposed draft layout and design concepts for the reconstruction of Grand Avenue S between Lake Street and 48th St W. Attendees are welcome to come and go at any time and may view a presentation.

The City of Minneapolis plans to reconstruct 2 ¼ miles of Grand Ave S between Lake Street and 48th St W. The 60-year-old pavement has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. With the total reconstruction of Grand Avenue, the City has the opportunity to:

  • Replace aging infrastructure
  • Improve safety
  • Incorporate ADA compliant pedestrian infrastructure
  • Calm traffic speeds
  • Enhance greening and stormwater facilities

Kingfield Boomerang Bags

Third Tuesdays!

In January the group will resume meeting monthly each 3rd Tuesday, gathering from 6–9 PM, but we will move to the new Kingfield-Lyndale community space at 3537 Nicollet Ave South. The format is causal, so drop in for as much time as you have free. Bring your own machine if you are a sewer, or just show up and help iron, cut, and pin. All levels of participation are welcomed, and we look forward to connecting with each other and sharing conversations about how we can all leave a lighter footprint our earth.

Stay in touch with the group via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/507876746461602/.

The Great Winter Warm-Up: 110 Comforters in 2 Days

Friday Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18, 10 am to 3 pm both days.
Help us make 110 comforters in two days for families at the US-Mexican border and Middle Eastern refugees. Judson Church and the Mennonite Central Committee will provide the batting materials, along with coffee, tea and hot water. Whether you are a knotter, sewer, stuffer or learner, experts will be on hand to help. If you are a sewer, bring your machine and some fabric, whole pieces or pieces that can be sewn together. Knotters bring scissors. A sack lunch and perhaps a shareable sweet is a good idea. Meet your neighbors and help keep some families warm. See mcc.org for tips on making comforters.
For more info or to RSVP contact Marlys Weins or Polly Schrom at
