Listening & Info Session on the Minneapolis Public Schools Comprehensive District Redesign

The Comprehensive District Design (CDD) examines how Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) educates students, how they are placed in and transported to our schools, and how this work is funded.

After introducing a proposed Comprehensive District Design in April 2019, MPS reviewed significant feedback and has now refocused the plan on systemic change and breaking the cycle of disparate achievement outcomes based on race and economics.

Light refreshments, school-aged childcare and interpretation will be available.

If accommodations are needed, contact
Sharifa Urey

Besides attending the meeting to learn more you can comment online here

Other Listening Sessions are scheduled in other parts of the City. If you can’t attend the meeting on Feb. 3
please see the other dates and meeting location here

Kingfield Empty Bowls 2020!

Check out FB Event details!

Volunteers STILL Needed – register here!

Kingfield’s ready to host its 9th annual Kingfield Empty Bowls community dinner to benefit Nicollet Square, and we would love to see you there! Empty Bowls is a single-evening event that combines art, food, local businesses, nonprofits, and lots and lots of neighbors raising awareness and funds to combat hunger in our neighborhood. Nicollet Square is an organization that provides affordable housing and a supportive environment for youth who have experienced long-term homelessness or have been in the foster care system.

The concept of Kingfield Empty Bowls is simple: Attendees make a donation ($20 per bowl is suggested), select a beautiful handmade bowl donated by a local pottery artist, enjoy a hearty meal of soup prepared by local restaurants, and then keep their bowl as a reminder that many of our neighbors need food and housing.

Grand Avenue Open Houses

The City of Minneapolis is holding public open houses to share updates, answer questions, and collect feedback on the proposed draft layout and design concepts for the reconstruction of Grand Avenue S between Lake Street and 48th St W. Attendees are welcome to come and go at any time and may view a presentation.

The City of Minneapolis plans to reconstruct 2 ¼ miles of Grand Ave S between Lake Street and 48th St W. The 60-year-old pavement has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. With the total reconstruction of Grand Avenue, the City has the opportunity to:

  • Replace aging infrastructure
  • Improve safety
  • Incorporate ADA compliant pedestrian infrastructure
  • Calm traffic speeds
  • Enhance greening and stormwater facilities

Third Tuesdays!

In January the group will resume meeting monthly each 3rd Tuesday, gathering from 6–9 PM, but we will move to the new Kingfield-Lyndale community space at 3537 Nicollet Ave South. The format is causal, so drop in for as much time as you have free. Bring your own machine if you are a sewer, or just show up and help iron, cut, and pin. All levels of participation are welcomed, and we look forward to connecting with each other and sharing conversations about how we can all leave a lighter footprint our earth.

Stay in touch with the group via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/507876746461602/.
