30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Breakfast

RISE UP!

“An individual has not started living until he can RISE above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” —Martin Luther King Jr.

Judson Church invites you to a neighborhood MLK Holiday Breakfast in conjunction with the General Mills Foundation and UNCF celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Along with a delicious breakfast, you’ll enjoy a livestream from the Armory of this year’s keynote speaker, The Honorable Eric H. Holder Jr., the former U.S. Attorney General. Breakfast starts at 7 am; the cost is just $5. Learn more and register at Register for MLK Breakfast. This year we welcome Holy Trinity Lutheran Church as host partners.

The Great Winter Warm-Up: 110 Comforters in 2 Days

Friday Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18, 10 am to 3 pm both days.
Help us make 110 comforters in two days for families at the US-Mexican border and Middle Eastern refugees. Judson Church and the Mennonite Central Committee will provide the batting materials, along with coffee, tea and hot water. Whether you are a knotter, sewer, stuffer or learner, experts will be on hand to help. If you are a sewer, bring your machine and some fabric, whole pieces or pieces that can be sewn together. Knotters bring scissors. A sack lunch and perhaps a shareable sweet is a good idea. Meet your neighbors and help keep some families warm. See mcc.org for tips on making comforters.
For more info or to RSVP contact Marlys Weins or Polly Schrom at

Kingfield Boomerang Bags

In January the group will resume meeting monthly each 3rd Tuesday, gathering from 6–9 PM, but we will move to the new Kingfield-Lyndale community space at 3537 Nicollet Ave South. The format is causal, so drop in for as much time as you have free. Bring your own machine if you are a sewer, or just show up and help iron, cut, and pin. All levels of participation are welcomed, and we look forward to connecting with each other and sharing conversations about how we can all leave a lighter footprint our earth. Stay in touch with the group via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/507876746461602/.

We will be busy sewing reusable shopping bags in the coming months for anyone that needs one, and are happy to support neighbors who need a bag to avoid charges and comply with the new Bring Your Own Bag Ordinance which goes into place on January 1st. This important change in Minneapolis is one small step toward reducing unnecessary plastic consumption in our city. Kingfield Boomerang Bags is excited to keep sewing bags, and also to begin providing education on this ordinance, so that people are prepared for the 5-cent change.

Do you need a reusable shopping bag? Come to an event and we will help you make one!

The 15th Kingfield Empty Bowls was a big success! The 15th Kingfield Empty Bowls was a big success! A HUGE thank you to the 750 people who attended, the many volunteers, partner nonprofits, donating restaurants and ceramics studios, accordionist Thor Anderson, neighborhood baking volunteers, and Judson Memorial for being the most gracious host. KFNA will be donating back a record amount to trustincmpls, Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, and tcfoodjustice. Stay tuned for updates on how to get involved for year 16!

Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛 An Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛
And right now, that togetherness matters.

On Sunday, February 8, neighbors will gather for Kingfield Empty Bowls—sharing soup, choosing handmade bowls, and supporting local nonprofits fighting food injustice and increasing housing access in our community.

It’s about sharing space, being together, and taking care of one another in small but meaningful ways.

We’d love to see you there.
