Gardening bugging you this week? Come to a Hands-On Garden Workshop about Common Garden Pests

Come learn what might be eating at you (and it) and what you might do about it!

Beetles, Bunnies, & Leaf Spots…Oh My! A Free Hands-on Gardening Workshop

Tuesday July 23, 5:30-6:30 PM at the Donation Garden at MLK Park, 4055 Nicollet

https://www.facebook.com/events/433032797543211/

Is something eating your veggies? Have you noticed a shiny bug creeping on your green beans? Join us on Tuesday to learn about problem solving in the vegetable garden.

We’ll also continuing our harvesting of herbs, green beans, peas, lettuce, eggplant, and zucchini.

Everyone is welcome. Feel free to drop in and bring your questions, tend the soil, and meet neighbors, whether weekly or whenever you can!

The mission of the MLK Donation Garden, located on the northern side of the King Park Building at 4055 Nicollet, is to connect neighbors and grow food for our community. Neighbors gather every Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 PM to tend the vegetables in the boxes at the northern side of the MLK Recreation Center and discuss a weekly topic. The food we grow in 2019 will be donated to The Aliveness Project (located at 3808 Nicollet), but the knowledge you go home with is yours to keep!

2019 Beloved Community Event

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park Legacy Council will host a celebration at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park. This free celebration will include great music, food trucks, and children’s activities. Enjoy a day of music and fun in the park to help celebrate our community. Free face painting, crafts, rides, and games to entertain the entire family. Ice cream and food will be available for a small fee.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park was renamed from Nicollet Field in 1968 to Dr. Martin Luther King Park to honor the civil rights leader who was assassinated earlier that year. Based on recommendations by the Advisory Task Force, the name of the park is now Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, ensuring the legacy of Dr. King will be preserved.

To Fertilize or Not To Fertilize

A Kingfield Hands-on Gardening Class!

Join your neighbors and Hennepin County Master Gardeners to learn all about fertilizing your garden. What kind of fertilizers are there? Do you need to fertilize? When should you do it?

We’ll also be harvesting micro sassy lettuce, picking some of our herbs, training the peas to attach to the trellis (if necessary), and discussing succession planting (what to do when you’ve harvested your first round of vegetables).

Everyone is welcome. We meet each Tuesday at the same place and time. Feel free to drop in and bring your questions, tend the soil, and meet neighbors, whether weekly or whenever you can!
