Communal Sap Tapping

Pick up your Sap Tapping Kit on: Saturday March 9, 9 AM-4 PM or Sunday March 10, noon-5 PM at MLK Park, 4055 Nicollet!

Register here

Combine your efforts (and your sap!) with your neighbors and let’s make maple syrup! Registered participants will pick up a Tree Tapping Kit from the front desk of MLK Park on Saturday March 9 between 9 AM-4 PM or Sunday March 10, noon-5 PM and will agree to tap a tree on their personal property by 3/11/19 Monday evening (note, trees must be larger than 10 inches in diameter). The weather forecast looks perfect for the sap to start running within days.

When the run is done, sap can be dropped off at the park where it will be collected, cooled, and stored until Saturday April 13 when we will have an outdoor communal syrup making party; participants will be able to sign up for a shift of syrup making, and will get to take a jar of the local golden nectar home with them too! A program of the Kingfield Neighborhood Association and MLK Park.  As Helen Keller said “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.”

Cost $20/ Comes with a kit. Kits includes spline(s), tubing, 5 gallon food grade collection bucket, and how-to instructions. Email with your tree’s diameter and species.

Cost $10/ Participant must provide your own kit.

Ward 8 Neighborhood 2020 Conversation

Hosted by the Lyndale and Bryant neighborhood groups

Since 2016, NCR has been meeting with community leaders, neighborhood organizations and elected officials about the role that the neighborhood organization system and NCR should play in meeting the needs of our growing city in 2020 and moving forward. This project is called Neighborhoods 2020. The Neighborhoods 2020 Framework Recommendations is a policy document that outlines the recommendations from these meetings, with input from three work groups, and is now open for public comment through March 31, 2019.

Ward 8 is invited to meet with the Bryant and Lyndale neighborhoods and Councilperson Andrea Jenkins to understand her position on the Framework and the role of neighborhood organizations in the work of the City of Minneapolis.

Questions? Contact Brad Bourn, Lyndale Neighborhood Association
