In 2015 members of the East 38^th Street community engaged in a series of meetings titled “The Future of East 38^th Street,” hosted by then Ward 8 Council Member Elizabeth Glidden. Those meetings led to the generation of several ideas, priorities and recommendations for our communities, including the preservation of African American history, public space improvements, community ownership and wealth building, to name a few. That work carried forward through additional community engagement meetings, and community-driven projects and project developments.

Ward 8 is continuing the work with community to preserve and enhance the vitality of East 38^thStreet. For this first meeting of the 38^th Street Thrive! series, we will review what has been done, hear from City of Minneapolis long range planning staff about land use and discuss equitable engagement and development.

It’s time to start planning Kingfield’s sprawling annual music fest, fondly known as PorchFest.  This summertime event has involved over 50 musical groups at over 30 sites on a single summer evening for the past four years!

Want to help plan and market the event? We need neighbors to contact musicians, schedule events, promote the event and bands, and find a way to grow this event into a financially sustainable annual community happening.

The planning group will hold it’s first meeting on Feb 20th and then schedule meetings, as needed, until the event (typically mid-June, date will be selected at this first meeting). If you want to be attend this meeting please me directly at  (so we know we have enough room at the table) and plan on attending. Please note, if you want to order dinner the kitchen closes at 7 so please arrive before the meeting begins to order. Treats and coffee available throughout the meeting.

If you cannot attend the meeting but have ideas about how the event could work more smoothly, sustainably, differently, etc.  please feel free to contact . If you don’t want to plan but want to be involved…stay tuned until after this first meeting for the date!
