Citizen Tree Pruning Workshop: New Dates for October 2018!

Calling Kingfield Orchard Caretakers! Interested in learning more about trees and being part of the Tree Team for the new Kingfield Orchard in MLK Park? Want to learn how to identify tree species in your neighborhood and implement proper pruning practices? Come attend the Citizen Pruner Volunteer training led by the University of Minnesota and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Forestry Department.

At this two session training you’ll learn tree ID, restricted species, fundamentals of pruning, and receive hands-on field practice. Training will focus on common species, and will include a fruit tree specific component. With over 100 new trees planted in MLK Park this spring we have a lot of examples to work with!

Cost: $25 (If financial assistance is needed, contact Calli at )

Pizza Party at the Kingfield Outdoor Oven

Facebook Event Page

Join us for an autumnal pizza party on Saturday as your afternoon activities wind-down! We will have a selection of slices for you to sample; feel free to pack your own reusable plate, utensils, AND beverage, or we will have compostable wear on site for those that need it. Seating is limited so feel free to bring a picnic blanket or folding chair too!

Kingfield community pizza events operate on a donation basis, with a suggested contribution of $10 per person to help offset the cost of lighting the oven and purchasing ingredients. Children are welcome accompanied by an adult.

Also: consider raising a loaf of bread dough later that evening at your home and coming back on Sunday morning to see how the oven performs at a cooler temp! The open bread-baking will occur between 9-11 AM Sunday Sept 16, as space allows! See details on the bread bake here.

Information on the Charter Amendment Proposal for the 2018 Ballot regarding Spacing and Licensing of Businesses that Serve Liquor

At the September Kingfield Neighborhood Association Board Meeting

Currently the City Charter holds the power over the amount and locations for liquor licensing within Minneapolis, not the City Council. This Vote, if approved by 55% of the voting population, would strike all references in the City Charter relating to the area and spacing restrictions pertaining to the sale of liquor.

The transmittal letter from the Charter Commission (which can be found here: https://lims.minneapolismn.gov/File/2018-00753 ) shows the recommended Charter strike out language,  and the votes. The official wording on the ballot will state:

“Shall the Minneapolis City Charter be amended to remove from the City charter the area and spacing requirements pertaining to liquor licenses? Yes or No”

Liquor area and spacing restrictions – by referendum [Minn. Stat. § 410.12, subd. 1]

See Legislative File No. 2018-00753

Come learn about this issue from two local, small-business owners that support the amendment.

And right now, that togetherness matters.

On Sunday, February 8, neighbors will gather for Kingfield Empty Bowls—sharing soup, choosing handmade bowls, and supporting local nonprofits fighting food injustice and increasing housing access in our community.

It’s about sharing space, being together, and taking care of one another in small but meaningful ways.

We’d love to see you there.
