Lantern Lighting Celebration at Lakewood Cemetery

Lakewood Cemetery invites the public to its fourth annual Lantern Lighting Celebration. This family-friendly event offers an opportunity for people to celebrate the lives of deceased loved ones by decorating a floating lantern in their memory. At dusk, in a beautiful ceremony, attendees gather to release their candlelit lanterns onto Lakewood’s eight-acre lake, while the names of loved ones are read aloud.

Since its inception in 2015, the event has grown through strong community support — from 400 people in its first year to more than 1,500 in 2017.  Visit Facebook to watch a short video from last year’s event to see what it means to people to participate in this event.

Throughout the event, guests can enjoy live music, food and refreshments from food vendors, the beauty of Lakewood’s scenic grounds, and take self-guided tours of the cemetery via Lakewood’s mobile app.

Tickets are available at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3459518. Cost is $5 and covers the use of one lantern and the art supplies to decorate it.

Primary Voting Day Party in Kingfield!

Seeking Volunteer Greeters, Home Bakers, and Movement Specialists (dance instructors, yoga practitioners, body-care specialists) for Tuesday August 14 (Primary Voting Day)!

If you’ve lived in Kingfield for a while, you know that Kingfield Neighborhood Association hosts a polling party at MLK Park every year on November’s Election Day. Volunteers greet neighbors with beverages and treats generously donated by area businesses throughout the day while the polls are open. All of Kingfield (and Kingfield only) votes at MLK Park, so it is a great day to bump elbows with neighbors– look for tents north of the MLK Park building and stop by!

For the first time KFNA will also be hosting an outdoor polling party for the primary on Tuesday, August 14th, as well as on Election Day. Sign up here to be a Volunteer Greeter or bake treats for your neighbors on this special Primary Voting Day!

We also envision a full day of family-focused activities that you will want to check out when you stop by to vote, including yoga, zumba, on-site massage, and hands-on arts and crafts. Contact us at if you are a movement or health practitioner, or a local artist, who would like to volunteer your time and offer an activity and promote your local business!

Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛 An Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛
And right now, that togetherness matters.

On Sunday, February 8, neighbors will gather for Kingfield Empty Bowls—sharing soup, choosing handmade bowls, and supporting local nonprofits fighting food injustice and increasing housing access in our community.

It’s about sharing space, being together, and taking care of one another in small but meaningful ways.

We’d love to see you there.
