Vegetable Growing Basics, a series of five classes

Registration open now! / Classes start April 4, from 6:30 – 8:00pm,

Register online or call 612-370-4908 to register or go to www.minneapolis.parks.org.

This popular FREE class is led by Hennepin County Master Gardeners is back! You will learn how to start, design, plant, and maintain your garden covering the most popular vegetables. You will learn how to harvest your crop and learn about future classes in food preservation. Organic gardening practices are taught and encouraged. You can’t get food more locally than from your own yard! Classes are April 4, 11,18, 25, and May 2. Teens are welcome if they attend with a parent or guardian!

To register for the class, go here. Instead you can phone the park at 612-370-4908 and tell them you are registering for Vegetable Growing Basics. You will need to give your name, address, phone number, and email address, if you have one.

This class is sponsored by The Minneapolis Park Board, Kingfield Neighborhood Association and the University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardener Program in Hennepin County.

Pleading the 5th and A Fair Trial for All

 

Organized by We The People MN

This community conversation will focus on the 5th, 6th, and 13th Amendments and will be led by Abou Amara with special guests from ISAIAH discussing the governmental orders impact on immigrant communities, and also Bill Weld, Office of the State Public Defender, discussing the impact of underfunded public defenders role in contributing to disparities in outcomes which exacerbates the issues that contribute to mass incarceration.

These bi-weekly Community Conversations centered on the US Constitution are led by local citizen experts as part of “We the People… A Community Conversation to Understand the U.S. Constitution, in 10 Acts”. Come meet the KFNA Board of Directors and learn about your neighborhood organization, what they do, and participate in planning for spring and summer events in your neighborhood! As usual the first 15 minutes is an open Community Forum, which is your chance to come and introduce yourself and raise any concern or question to the board. If you need more time feel free to contact KFNA Executive Director Sarah Linnes-Robinson at and ask to be scheduled for on a future meeting agenda.

Neighbor input sought to evaluate 43rd & Nicollet Pedestrian Safety Improvements

Location: MLK Park, Arts & Crafts Room 

In January 2017 Minneapolis Public Works installed ballards (bumpouts) at the intersection of 43rd and Nicollet to help increase pedestrian safety at that intersection.  Public works is also evaluating a potential median design at this location. Please join us to provide your feedback on the existing bumpouts/ballards, as well as reviewing median design and other information from public works. Staff from Minneapolis Public Works, KFNA, and the Ward 8 City Council Office will be in attendance.

Minneapolis Public Schools will hold community meetings in support of immigrant and refugee families

Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is committed to being a safe haven for everyone. The district knows that recent current events have raised questions for some immigrant and refugee families. To offer support, MPS is joining with community partners to host two meetings to answer questions and connect families with resources both in our schools and in the community:

MPS is partnering with the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR MN), NAVIGATE and the Somali American Parent Association (SAPA) to provide information about changing policies, legal resources and social and emotional supports available.
