Minneapolis Public Schools will hold community meetings in support of immigrant and refugee families

Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is committed to being a safe haven for everyone. The district knows that recent current events have raised questions for some immigrant and refugee families. To offer support, MPS is joining with community partners to host two meetings to answer questions and connect families with resources both in our schools and in the community:

MPS is partnering with the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR MN), NAVIGATE and the Somali American Parent Association (SAPA) to provide information about changing policies, legal resources and social and emotional supports available.

Early Morning with Elizabeth: Make your voice heard – at the 2017 State Legislative Session!

State legislators, community organizers, and engaged residents have been active at the Capitol this session, protecting Minnesota from harmful policy and working for positive change. The State Capitol has seen hundreds of residents turn out to testify against state bills, including one that would try to remove local control of cities to pass sick time ordinances and other workplace benefits, and another that imposes severe penalties on those who choose to exercise their first amendment rights to protest.

We hope you can join us for an energizing session with Minneapolis legislators and community organizers, including Senator Jeff Hayden, Representative Frank Hornstein, Wintana Melekin, the Civic and Political Engagement Director for Neighborhoods Organizing for Change (NOC), and Chris Conry, Strategic Campaigns Director for TakeActionMN.

We will open with a welcome from activist business owner Daniel Swenson-Klatt, of Butter Bakery Café, who has testified and organized at the Capitol on issues he believes in, including the importance of improving working conditions for all.

Kingfield Neighborhood Association Annual POTLUCK and Board Election

The Aliveness Project 2nd Floor Community Room (note location change from previously published info)

The annual KFNA board elections are approaching, and on Wednesday, February 22nd, nominations for board members will be taken from the floor at the meeting. Come take a chance that what is available will be good and acceptable! For more information in the weeks leading up to this meeting, please contact KFNA Executive Director Sarah Linnes-Robinson at or 612.823.5980.

Some folks have already decided they want to run for the board of Directors: read their Bios at the FB event page. Also, all Kingfield neighbors will be asked to vote on amending the KFNA by-laws, but most importantly, the KFNA annual meeting is a time for neighbors to come together and celebrate Kingfield!

Please bring a dish to share! The Aliveness Project is handicapped accessible, and kids are welcome!
