Paint-a-Bowl for Kingfield Empty Bowls

Come paint-a-bowl at the ColorWheel Gallery for Kingfield’s February 9th  2017 Empty Bowl’s event, which benefits Nicollet Square Housing! We will be painting some of the 234 bowls created at the October Pottery Throwdown hosted by Uptown Clay!

This is a free activity for anyone that would like to paint a bowl; we do ask that kids under twelve years old participate with a parent. Bowls will be glazed and then used at the Kingfield Empty Bowls fundraiser for Nicollet Square, a 42-unit housing complex in Kingfield for youth ages 18-22 that have experienced long-term homelessness.

Ceramic Artists: You can also drop off their already made bowls to donate to this event with Tammy at the ColorWheel on this day too! If this date doesn’t work for you donations can be dropped off at the Colorwheel Gallery, 319 West 46th Street, most afternoons beginning now and continuing until January 30 (please leave your contact information and receipt for the number of items donated so we can get you a tax form). Contact the Gallery Owner, Tammy Ortegon at 612-823-5693 to make sure she can meet you at the shop.

Community Forum Topic:  2017 Planned Street Repaving and Additional Proposed Kingfield Bikelanes

Regarding Repaving:

As an ongoing improvements on the City’s streets The City of Minneapolis, Department of Public Works is planning on a resurfacing (mill and overlay) in these two areas (called in the Harriet/Lakewood area and these areas DO cover parts of Kingfield Neighborhood) in the summer of 2017.  These two projects were originally built in 1980 & 1978 respectfully.  As part of the funding for this work, there will be a property assessment included as a part of this project.  City staff will be available to discuss this in more details at the upcoming meeting with KFNA on November 9.

Regarding Bikelanes:

The proposed bikeway project on 42nd/43rd St W would be installed following the resurfacing work and would not require additional roadway closures. The current scope and status of proposed 2017 bikeway projects in the area to be discussed at this meeting includes:

42nd/43rd St W (Kingfield and East Harriet)

  • Project limits: Lake Harriet Parkway to Nicollet Ave
  • Bikeway project is in coordination with resurfacing planned for 2017
  • Proposed as a bike boulevard with no parking removal

38th St W (East Harriet)

  • Project limits: Bryant Ave to Lyndale Ave
  • Bikeway project is in coordination with resurfacing planned for 2017
  • Proposed as bike lanes with parking removal on the south side

Note: 38th St is on the Bike Plan east of Lyndale and the City is asking if the community would like to install bike lanes there as well. If there is interest in moving that conversation forward, or not, be good to hear from the community at this meeting.
