Community Forum Topic:  2017 Planned Street Repaving and Additional Proposed Kingfield Bikelanes

Regarding Repaving:

As an ongoing improvements on the City’s streets The City of Minneapolis, Department of Public Works is planning on a resurfacing (mill and overlay) in these two areas (called in the Harriet/Lakewood area and these areas DO cover parts of Kingfield Neighborhood) in the summer of 2017.  These two projects were originally built in 1980 & 1978 respectfully.  As part of the funding for this work, there will be a property assessment included as a part of this project.  City staff will be available to discuss this in more details at the upcoming meeting with KFNA on November 9.

Regarding Bikelanes:

The proposed bikeway project on 42nd/43rd St W would be installed following the resurfacing work and would not require additional roadway closures. The current scope and status of proposed 2017 bikeway projects in the area to be discussed at this meeting includes:

42nd/43rd St W (Kingfield and East Harriet)

  • Project limits: Lake Harriet Parkway to Nicollet Ave
  • Bikeway project is in coordination with resurfacing planned for 2017
  • Proposed as a bike boulevard with no parking removal

38th St W (East Harriet)

  • Project limits: Bryant Ave to Lyndale Ave
  • Bikeway project is in coordination with resurfacing planned for 2017
  • Proposed as bike lanes with parking removal on the south side

Note: 38th St is on the Bike Plan east of Lyndale and the City is asking if the community would like to install bike lanes there as well. If there is interest in moving that conversation forward, or not, be good to hear from the community at this meeting.

Pizza Night! A Kingfield Community Oven Event

Note: This event will be held at the Kingfield Community Outdoor Oven located Kingfield’s Pleasant Community Garden on the grounds of the Center for Performing Arts.

Celebrate the turning back of the clocks! The oven will be hot (literally 800 degrees of hot!) and we will be baking pizza for neighbors to enjoy. Wander on down and help yourself to a slice! Bring your own lawn chair or picnic blanket (and maybe a blanket to snuggle up in too!) Please consider packing your own reusable plate, utensils, and bring your own beverage.  There will be compostable tableware for those who need it.

This is a No Cost event–free will donations will be accepted.

We are also providing, at no cost, a two partial-day training in working oven events on Nov. 5 & 6. If you want to volunteer and learn how to work the oven and manage events at this outdoor site contact to check the times and see if there is still space available to participate.

Community Empty Bowls Paint-a-Bowl at the 2nd Annual Uptown Clay Throwdown!

Wheels will spin & clay will fly! Come join the fun!

There will be things to nibble and sip, and a chance to chat with the artists about their work while browsing the studio as they get ready for their annual holiday sale coming December 2-4. You can also paint a bowl for Kingfield’s February 2017 Empty Bowls event!
