“Board in a Box” — Brainstorming a Better Kingfield!

The Little Box Sauna is located at 38&Nic (in the parking lot behind Blackbird Cafe) through January 30.

KFNA Board of Directors will be on the hot seat Thursday night to discuss what can be done to make our neighborhood an even better place and EVERYONE in Kingfield is invited to join them!

In preparation for a new year of service (and the KFNA Annual Meeting & Election coming up on February 10) and in an effort to be the best board possible to serve Kingfield, your neighborhood nonprofit Board of Directors want to hear your ideas to build community, create unity, and strengthen opportunities for all neighbors in Kingfield. Come talk their ear off while we all sweat it out in the Little Box Sauna, brought to Kingfield this winter by the Lander Group and the 612SaunaSociety.

Questions contact Executive Director Sarah Linnes-Robinson at or 612.823.5980.

Early morning with Elizabeth: “Wage Theft”

Join Elizabeth Glidden, 8th Ward Councilperson, on Friday January 22 for a discussion of wage theft. What is wage theft? Most simply, it is the failure to properly pay workers for time worked. Despite many laws that prohibit wage theft and direct how and when employees are paid, worker experiences with wage theft are not uncommon in Minneapolis and around the country.

We are pleased to welcome workers telling their personal stories of wage theft, members of Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en Lucha (CTUL). Staff from CTUL will present findings of the organization’s recent survey and report on conditions faced by low wage workers entitled “Confronting Exploitation.” You can review the report here [link to http://www.scribd.com/doc/289479974/FINAL-Confronting-Exploitation-CTUL-Report-on-Low-wage-Economy-English-Spanish-for-Print). We will also be joined by Michele Garnett McKenzie, Deputy Director of Advocates for Human Rights, to discuss that organizations’ work to prepare recommendations regarding needed worker protections and Mike Wilde, Executive Director of the Fair Contracting Foundation.

Please join us for a great discussion of wage theft – what is the problem, who is affected, and what are recommendations for the future.

A HUGE thank you to the 750 people who attended, the many volunteers, partner nonprofits, donating restaurants and ceramics studios, accordionist Thor Anderson, neighborhood baking volunteers, and Judson Memorial for being the most gracious host. KFNA will be donating back a record amount to trustincmpls, Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, and tcfoodjustice. Stay tuned for updates on how to get involved for year 16!

Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛 An Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛
And right now, that togetherness matters.

On Sunday, February 8, neighbors will gather for Kingfield Empty Bowls—sharing soup, choosing handmade bowls, and supporting local nonprofits fighting food injustice and increasing housing access in our community.

It’s about sharing space, being together, and taking care of one another in small but meaningful ways.

We’d love to see you there.
